Paula Gómez Pérez, justice of the peace of A Cañiza for four years

The Governing Board Commission of the High Court of Justice of Galicia has agreed to the appointment of Paula Gómez Pérez as the titular justice of the peace of the Municipality of A Cañiza for a period of four years. The agreement, adopted at the meeting on July 23, 2026, is made public in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra number 180, corresponding to September 18, 2026, in the Justice Administration section. The designation responds to the prior election of the candidate by the municipal Plenary, with the favorable vote of the absolute majority of its members.

The agreement of the Governing Board of the TSXG

The resolution is published as an edict of the Government Secretariat based in A Coruña, signed on July 30, 2026, by the Government Secretary, Juan José Martín Álvarez. The text includes the appointment of the titular and/or substitute justices of the peace of the municipalities of the autonomous community listed in the edict, among which A Cañiza is included.

Election by the Plenary and taking office

• The appointed person was elected by the Plenary of the Municipality of A Cañiza with the favorable vote of the absolute majority of the members of the corporation.
• The appointment has a validity of four years.
• The taking of office must take place at the judicial office of the municipality and before the person who had been exercising the jurisdiction.
• The deadline is 20 calendar days counted from the day following the publication of the appointment in the provincial gazette.
• Before taking office, the judge must take an oath or promise before the judge of the respective court of first instance, in the manner provided for in article 101.5 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary.

Appeals and incompatibility regime

Against the agreement, interested parties may file an administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) before the General Council of the Judiciary within one month counted from the day following the publication of the edict.

Furthermore, those appointed justices of the peace who are subject to any incompatibility must choose the position that interests them within a period of eight days.

The publication of the appointment closes the process of renewing a proximity justice position in A Cañiza, a body that assumes the first instance in civil and criminal matters of minor amount. With the designation of Paula Gómez Pérez for four years, the municipality guarantees the continuity of the judicial service closest to the citizenry, pending the new titular formalizing her taking of office within the period fixed by the regulations.
