Osakidetza has called for a competitive examination for the head of the Chronicity unit

The general director of Osakidetza-Basque Health Service, Miren Lorea Bilbao Arteche, has called for a public competition to fill the head of the Sanitary Section of the Chronicity and End of Life Unit, within the Sub-directorate of Hospital Assistance. The call was made via Resolution 1408/2026, dated July 28, and published in the Official Gazette of the Basque Country (BOPV) number 161, on August 25, 2026, with reference 2026/3691.
The position is located within the structure of the Directorate of Sanitary Assistance and the General Directorate of Osakidetza-Basque Health Service, and it is a fundamental management position in hospital care. The call is made in accordance with the third common rule of Article 28 of Law 8/1997 on the Health Organization of the Basque Country, Decree 186/2005 (which regulates functional positions in Osakidetza), and Law 55/2003 (Framework Statute).
Requirements for participation
To participate in the competition, candidates must be statutory employees, civil servants, or permanent contract employees of professional group A1, within Osakidetza or the National Health System. A medical degree, language profile 2, and a minimum of three years of experience in the specialty are also required.

Functions of the position
The head will have strategic tasks in hospital care, ranging from emergencies and critical patient care to time-dependent pathologies (stroke, AMI, trauma, sepsis, and other major emergencies), along with the impact of chronicity. They will also manage transversal hospital processes (surgical, diagnostic, and hospitalization) and the assistance follow-up between levels.

Selection procedure and deadlines
Interested parties will have a period of 15 business days, starting from the day following the last publication of the call, to send applications to the Directorate of People and Talent of Osakidetza-Basque Health Service (Álava 45, 01006 Vitoria-Gasteiz). The selection procedure includes the public defense of a project memory and the evaluation of merits, with a maximum scale of 66 points.

- Basque language knowledge: maximum 6 points.
The appointment will be for a period of four years, extendable according to Law 8/1997. An appeal for reversal may be filed against the resolution within one month before the Administrative Council of Osakidetza-Basque Health Service.
