Olivenza announces a vacancy for a Local Police Sub-Inspector

The Olivenza City Council has announced, through a competitive examination system for internal promotion, the permanent filling of one position for Local Police Sub-Inspector, corresponding to the public employment offer for the year 2026. The call was approved by mayoral decree dated August 28, and its rules are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 168, dated September 2, 2026, under the reference Announcement 3437/2026.

The position is classified within the Special Administration scale, Special Services sub-scale, Local Police class, Technical scale, subgroup A2, according to article 76 of the Legislative Royal Decree 5/2015, of October 30, which approves the revised text of the Basic Statute of Public Employees Law. The position will be endowed with the basic remuneration of subgroup A2 and the complementary payments assigned in the current Job Position Relationship.

Applicant Requirements

To participate, candidates must meet a series of general and specific conditions, including:

• Being a career civil servant of the Local Police of the Olivenza City Council.
• Having at least two years of seniority in active service in the category of officer.
• Holding a university degree, diploma, or equivalent.
• Possessing valid driving licenses of classes A2 and B.
• Having no criminal record for intentional crimes nor being subject to disciplinary proceedings for a serious or very serious offense.
• Having more than five years remaining before transitioning to second activity due to age in the basic or executive scales, and more than three in the technical and superior scales.

All requirements must be met by the deadline for the submission of applications and maintained throughout the process until the assumption of office.

Deadline, Applications, and Examination Fees

Applications should preferably be submitted through the City Council’s electronic office (https://sede.olivenza.es/), although they may also be delivered to the general registry or through the means provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1. The deadline will be twenty business days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official State Gazette, once the rules have been published in full in the BOP of Badajoz.

Examination fees amount to 9 euros, in accordance with the current Tax Ordinance of the City Council published on March 24, 2026, and must be paid via deposit into the IBERCAJA account indicated in the rules, with the concept “sub-inspector examination fees” and the applicant’s name.

Phases of the Selection Process

The procedure will be carried out in three phases:

• Opposition phase, eliminatory in nature, consisting of three tests: physical, theoretical (50-question test in 120 minutes), and practical (case studies in a maximum of 90 minutes).
• Merit competition phase, non-eliminatory, which assesses professional experience, academic training, continuing education, teaching, and decorations, with a maximum of 4 points.
• Category promotion selective course, with a minimum duration of one month, taught by the Public Security Academy of Extremadura.

The Qualifying Tribunal will be composed of five members and their substitutes, ensuring balanced representation between men and women, and will be designated along with the resolution approving the final list of applicants. The tests must begin within two months of the end of the application period and conclude before the start of the selective course.

Appointment and taking office

Those who pass the process will be appointed as trainee civil servants in the category of sub-inspector and, after passing the selective course, as career civil servants via a resolution from the Mayor’s Office, published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura. The taking of office must take place within a maximum period of 15 days from the appointment, with an oath or promise in accordance with Royal Decree 707/1979, of April 5.

The call for applications reinforces the internal professional career of the Olivenza Local Police force and allows for the filling of a middle-management position key to local security, offering the municipality’s officers a regulated and transparent path for promotion.
