Eight Government sub-delegates and the island director of La Gomera, dismissed

Ocho subdelegados del Gobierno y el director insular de La Gomera, cesados

The Official State Gazette publishes this Tuesday, October 20, 2026, nine resolutions from the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory ordering the dismissal of eight Government sub-delegates and one insular director of the General State Administration. The dismissals affect the sub-delegations of Barcelona, Málaga, Seville, Granada, Almería, Córdoba, Pontevedra, and Lleida, and the insular directorate of La Gomera. All resolutions set the effects of the dismissal on the same day of publication, October 20, 2026.

The nine provisions appear in section II.A of the official journal, dedicated to appointments, situations, and incidents, within BOE no. 260, and occupy pages 139809 to 139817. The texts invoke the powers of articles 73 and 74 of Law 40/2015, of October 1, on the Legal Regime of the Public Sector, and the regulatory development of Royal Decree 617/1997, of April 25, regarding Government sub-delegates and insular directors. The resolutions are limited to ordering the dismissal and expressing gratitude for the services rendered, without providing additional motivation.

Andalusia concentrates five of the dismissals

The Government Delegation in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, based in Seville and led by Pedro Fernández Peñalver, signs five of the nine resolutions, all dated October 16, 2026. This is the largest block and simultaneously leaves five of the eight Andalusian sub-delegations vacant:

The five Andalusian resolutions follow an identical model: dismissal effective October 20, 2026, reference to article 2 of Royal Decree 617/1997, and express gratitude for the services rendered. The coincidence of the date and the signing body groups the five dismissals into a single administrative movement.

Catalonia, Galicia, and the Canary Islands complete the list

The remaining provisions come from three other Government delegations and are staggered between October 15 and 19:

The Canarian case presents a technical peculiarity: it is not a provincial sub-delegation but an insular directorate, a figure regulated by Article 7 of Royal Decree 617/1997, a detail that the resolution expressly records as opposed to Article 2 cited by the others.

A single administrative pattern

The nine texts share the same structure and formula: a heading with the competent body, reference to Law 40/2015 and Royal Decree 617/1997, identification of the holder with their personnel registration number, effective date, and a closing with gratitude for the services rendered. The simultaneous publication in a single issue of the BOE turns what would be nine scattered decisions into a homogeneous and easily identifiable block.

With these dismissals, eight provinces are left without a Government Sub-delegate in ordinary functions and La Gomera without an insular director, pending the resolution of the corresponding free-appointment calls. The BOE does not accompany the dismissals with substitute appointments in the same issue.

The relevance of the publication is twofold: on one hand, it provides formal record of the change of holders in the State’s peripheral administration in four autonomous communities—Andalusia, Catalonia, Galicia, and the Canary Islands—; on the other, it sets the exact effective date, October 20, 2026, a mandatory reference for any procedure, delegation of signature, or substitution that must be activated in those offices until the vacancies are filled.
