O Vicedo calls for transport grants of up to 350 euros for students

The Local Government Board of the Vicedo City Council approved in the extraordinary session of October 5, 2026, the regulatory bases for transport grants intended for students pursuing studies outside the municipal boundary during the 2025-2026 academic year. The call is published in full in the Official Gazette of the Province of Lugo, number 235, dated October 14, 2026, with official reference R. 2720, and establishes single-payment grants of between 120 and 350 euros depending on the mileage. Applications may be submitted within 30 calendar days starting from the day following publication.

The measure is processed under Article 9 of the general ordinance regulating the granting of subsidies of the Vicedo City Council, and the announcement is signed by the mayor, José Jesús Novo Martínez, dated October 6, 2026. Funding is provided by item 326.479 of the municipal budget approved for 2026, and the call will also be published on the municipal notice board.

The application period coincides with the mayor’s absence: according to announcement R. 2718, José Jesús Novo Martínez delegated all of his powers to the first deputy mayor, María del Pilar Otero Insua, between October 13 and November 2, 2026, both dates included.

Requirements and beneficiary groups

Young men and women registered in the Vicedo City Council who are enrolled in centers funded with public funds in the following studies may access the grants:

• Baccalaureate.
• Intermediate or higher vocational training cycles.
• University degrees.
• The last two years of conservatory in the professional degree, incompatible with enrollment in any modality of baccalaureate.
• Higher artistic teaching specialties, according to the resolution of December 23, 2021.
• University masters, theses, or doctorates, excluding distance or online learning.

Among the requirements, it is required to be registered and reside in the municipality —the beneficiary, their father or mother, or, if applicable, the guardian— six months prior to the date of application, and to be enrolled in the 2025-2026 course.

The bases exclude baccalaureate and vocational training students who have a bus service coinciding with school hours, taking into account that since 2021, those under 21 years of age can use the new card from the Xunta de Galicia. Those who prove the incompatibility of the school schedule with public transport and those enrolled in centers outside the Autonomous Community of Galicia will be entitled to the grants. For university students under 21 enrolled in the faculties of A Coruña, Santiago, and Lugo, travel to the public transport connection point will be paid, and those who turn 21 and are excluded from the card during the course will receive the proportional part.

Amounts according to mileage

The aid is a single payment and is identical for each beneficiary within the corresponding distance bracket:

• From 1 to 15 kilometers: 120 euros.
• From 16 to 50 kilometers: 150 euros.
• From 51 to 100 kilometers: 200 euros.
• From 101 to 150 kilometers: 250 euros.
• From 151 to 200 kilometers: 300 euros.
• More than 201 kilometers: 350 euros.

The final amount will be subsequently approved by the Local Government Board.

Deadline, documentation and processing

• Deadline: 30 calendar days from the day following the publication of the rules in the Official Gazette of the Province of Lugo.
• Place: general entry registry of the Vicedo City Council, via application according to the official model.
• Documentation: application signed by the interested party or by the father, mother or guardian if they are a minor, certified photocopy of the DNI, bank certification and, for those under 21 years of age, a sworn statement of schedule incompatibility where applicable.
• Justification: certified enrollment and an extract of the record or academic certification of having presented at least 50% of the subjects for the 2025/2026 course.
• Instructing body: the Delegated Councilor for Education, who will formulate the resolution proposal after the report from the Evaluation Commission.
• Commission: chaired by the mayor and composed of the social worker, the delegated councilor for social affairs and the manager of the House of Culture, with the secretary-intervenor as secretary.
• Resolution: corresponds to the Local Government Board, following a report from the Municipal Intervention; it will be notified individually and published on the notice board.

Impact for families

The grants directly affect families of the Vicedo City Council with children displaced to educational centers outside the municipality, a situation that the rules themselves frame within the objective of covering the travel expenses of those students who study outside the municipal boundary. The maximum amount of 350 euros per student and the single payment make the call a relevant support for the expenses of the course, while the deadline of 30 calendar days and the required documentation force the application to be submitted quickly. The publication in the Official Gazette of the Province of Lugo marks the effective start of the count, therefore interested families must stay attentive to the municipal board and the council registry.
