Nine million in grants for tourism energy efficiency

The Galician Tourism Agency published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG no. 164, of August 31, 2026) the Resolution of August 10, 2026, which establishes the regulatory bases and announces the call, on a non-competitive basis, for subsidies for energy efficiency actions in tourism companies, with procedure code TU986B. The line has a total credit of 9,000,000 euros and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) at 60% of the eligible expenditure, within the framework of the Galicia ERDF Program 2021-2027.
The call is part of the Galicia Tourism Strategy 2030, which includes among its proposals the promotion of energy efficiency and the green transition of tourism companies, and is also one of the measures of the Plan of measures to help the sectors with the most difficulties and families facing the effects of the war in the Middle East, approved on March 30, 2026, by the Council of the Xunta de Galicia. The grants are subject to the de minimis regime of Commission Regulation (EU) No 2023/2831.
Beneficiaries and eligible actions
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that own tourist accommodation and catering establishments registered in the Registry of Tourism Companies and Activities of the Xunta de Galicia (REAT), with projects located in Galicia, may be beneficiaries. Specifically:
- Hotel establishments, rural tourism, tourist apartments, tourist homes, and tourist hostels.
- Catering companies: restaurants, cafes, and bars.
Eligible expenses must have been incurred and paid between January 1, 2026, and November 2, 2027, and the project may not be completed before the submission of the application.
Amount of aid according to savings
The intensity of the subsidy depends on the minimum savings in primary energy of non-renewable origin achieved, up to a maximum of 90% of the eligible investment:
- 50% aid with a minimum saving of 30%.
- 70% aid with a minimum saving of 40%.
- 90% aid with a minimum saving of 50%.
The credit is distributed across three accounting projects by aid intensity, with a total of 900,000 euros for 2026 and 8,100,000 euros for 2027. The granting will be processed on a non-competitive basis until the available credit is exhausted, and the procedure may not last more than 4 months from the submission of the application.
Deadline and submission
The application period will be three months and will begin at 9:00 a.m. on the fifth business day following the publication of the call in the DOG, ending at 8:00 p.m. on the day the three months are completed, unless the credit is exhausted. Applications must be submitted electronically through the electronic office of the Xunta de Galicia. The resolution, signed by the agency director, José Manuel Merelles Remy, was registered in the National Grants Database with the identifier 926278.
This call represents a boost to the decarbonization of the Galician tourism sector, allowing establishments to reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint with European support, in a context where sustainability becomes a key factor for competitiveness and quality of Galicia’s tourism offer.
