NEDGIA requests converting two LPG networks to natural gas in Burgos

Two transformation projects for rural municipalities in Burgos

NEDGIA Castilla y León, S.A. has filed two applications with the Junta de Castilla y León to convert liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution networks to natural gas in two towns in the province of Burgos. The projects, published this Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in the Official Gazette of the Province of Burgos (issue 155), have been submitted for public information by the Territorial Service of Industry, Commerce and Economy of Burgos.

Both applications fall under Article 78 of Royal Decree 1434/2002 of December 27, which regulates the activities of transport, distribution, marketing, supply and authorization procedures for natural gas installations. The company currently holding the installations in both cases is Gas Natural Redes GLP, S.A.

Project in Merindad de Río Ubierna

The first notice, with official reference BoPBur-2026-03323 (page 4 of the gazette), covers the project to convert to natural gas at MOP 1.7 BAR the existing installations in the municipality of Merindad de Río Ubierna. The main characteristics of the work are:

• Conversion of the existing CU 15/18 distribution network, 132 meters in length, from LPG to natural gas.
• Dismantling of the existing LPG plant, identified as GLP-109-09.
• Estimated budget: €12,830.27.

The notice is dated in Burgos on July 24, 2026, and was signed by María Dolores Velasco Lajo, head of the Territorial Service.

Project in Quintanaortuño

The second notice, with reference BoPBur-2026-03330 (page 5 of the gazette), affects the municipality of Quintanaortuño (Burgos). The application contemplates the conversion to natural gas at MOP 3.5 BAR of the existing installations supplied with LPG. The key data of the project are:

• Conversion of the existing PE 100 DN 32 distribution network, 1,798 meters in length, from LPG to natural gas.
• Dismantling of the existing LPG plant, identified as GLP-171-09.
• Estimated budget: €35,884.46.

This second notice is dated in Burgos on July 29, 2026, and is also signed by María Dolores Velasco Lajo, head of the Territorial Service.

Public information period and allegations

Both projects are subject to a public information period so that any person may examine them on the website of the Junta de Castilla y León, in the Energy and Mining Section (www.energia.jcyl.es), in compliance with Law 39/2015, of 1 October, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations. Interested parties may submit allegations to the Territorial Service of Industry, Commerce and Economy of Burgos, located at Glorieta de Bilbao, number 31, ground floor, on business days from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The deadline for submitting allegations is twenty business days from the publication of each notice in the official bulletin.

Relevance to rural energy modernisation

These two projects represent a step in extending the natural gas network to rural municipalities in the province of Burgos, until now supplied with LPG. The replacement of existing networks and the decommissioning of LPG plants entails a modernisation of energy infrastructure that can improve the competitiveness of supplies and reduce the carbon footprint in the rural Castilian and Leonese area.
