Navarra announces international predoctoral mobility grants with 225,000 euros

The Director General for Universities of the Government of Navarra, Eva Perujuániz Bermúdez, has approved through Resolution 285E/2026, dated August 17, the call for International Pre-doctoral Mobility Grants for the year 2026, with a maximum multi-annual expenditure of 225,000 euros. The call, with code BDNS 925232, is published in the Official Gazette of Navarra number 171, dated August 31, 2026, and is aimed at doctoral students from Navarrese universities.

The measure is part of the Training and R&D Grant Plans of the Directorate General for Universities, whose strategic objective is to build a critical mass of researchers in Navarra and promote the internationalization of research activity. It is processed in accordance with Foral Law 11/2005, of November 9, on Subsidies, and Foral Decree 252/2023, of November 15, which establishes the organic structure of the Department of University, Innovation and Digital Transformation.

Funding and beneficiaries

The maximum expenditure for the call amounts to 225,000 euros, charged to budget line G10001-G1100-4800-322302, “Grants for the Training and Research and Development (R&D) Plan”, with the following distribution by year:

• Year 2026: a maximum of 180,000 euros.
• Year 2027: a maximum of 45,000 euros.

Eligible applicants include individuals who are current beneficiaries of a pre-doctoral grant from the Government of Navarra or those pursuing a doctorate at a Navarrese university with a pre-doctoral grant in the form of a contract granted by any public or private entity. It is required to have completed at least six months of the doctoral program, to have been accepted by the receiving center, and to have a favorable report from the affiliated center.

Grant concepts and amounts

The grants cover three concepts to finance the research stay abroad:

• Maintenance and accommodation: a module of 40 euros/day (30 days per month) adjusted by a coefficient according to the destination country, with a limit of 13,500 euros.
• Travel expenses: 300 euros up to 1,000 km, 600 euros between 1,001 and 2,500 km, and 1,200 euros for distances exceeding 2,500 km.
• Accident and medical assistance insurance: 200 euros/month of stay, with a maximum of 1,200 euros, when the European Health Insurance Card is not valid.

Stays shall have a minimum duration of one month and a maximum of six, extendable to nine months in the case of theses under a joint supervision (cotutela) agreement between a Navarrese university and a foreign one. Generally, these will take place in foreign research centers or groups, and exceptionally in Spanish centers of international relevance for a duration not exceeding three months.

Deadline and processing

The application period will be 20 days starting from the day following the publication of the call in the Official Gazette of Navarra. Applications must be submitted electronically via the grants section of the navarra.es portal, and the award resolution must be issued within a maximum period of four months from the closing date.

The call aims to promote the internationalization of the Navarrese university system, placing special value on stays within the framework of co-tutelage agreements, European university alliances, or centers within the Aquitaine, Basque Country, Navarra Euroregion. For Navarrese doctoral students, this represents an opportunity to strengthen their training and their thesis at internationally renowned centers, consolidating the links between the universities of the Chartered Community and the rest of the world.
