Narsingdi redraws Madhabpur and Chakra unions after Shibpur absorbs mouzas

The Upazila Land Office, Shibpur, in Narsingdi district has published the final ward boundaries of two reconstituted unions, Madhabpur and Chakra, after seven mouzas were absorbed into Shibpur municipality. The two notices, dated 17 August 2026 and signed by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Abdur Rahim in his capacity as Boundary Determination Officer, appear in The Bangladesh Gazette of 1 October 2026, 6th Part, Section I, pages 1241–1243, under official references bs 31.15.6856.001.00.032.24-821 and bs 31.15.6856.001.00.032.24-822. Both unions are reconstituted under section 12 of the Local Government (Union Parishad) Act, 2009, with ward boundaries framed under section 13 of the same Act.

The notices state that the changes were required for administrative reorganisation after four mouzas of Madhabpur Union — বান্দারদিয়া, বানিয়াদী, আব্দুলখানা and সুন্দরদী — and three mouzas of Chakra Union — শিবপুর, আরালিয়া and বড় আশ্রাফপুর — were absorbed into Shibpur municipality. A preliminary list of possible wards had been published from the same office on 2 July 2024, under memo no. 407 for Madhabpur and memo no. 406 for Chakra; objections were invited within 15 days and, according to the notices, none were received.

The final lists are now published. Any objection to them must be filed in writing with the District Commissioner, Narsingdi, within 10 working days. All population figures in both notices are drawn from the 2022 population and housing census.

Reserved seats and what changes for voters

Both notices fix three reserved women’s seats, each shared by three wards:

  • Wards 1, 2 and 3 — reserved women’s seat no. 1
  • Wards 4, 5 and 6 — reserved women’s seat no. 2
  • Wards 7, 8 and 9 — reserved women’s seat no. 3

For residents of the two unions, the publication closes a delimitation process that began in July 2024 and redraws the electoral map of a corner of Narsingdi where urban expansion has been eating into rural unions. Voters in the seven transferred mouzas now fall under Shibpur municipality rather than their old union parishads, while the remaining mouzas keep nine-ward unions with populations of 32,410 (Madhabpur) and 27,754 (Chakra). The 10-working-day window for written objections to the District Commissioner, Narsingdi is the last formal chance to challenge the boundaries before they take effect.
