Multinationals register trademarks in Nicaragua before the Intellectual Property Registry

Issue number 164 of La Gaceta — Official Gazette, corresponding to Thursday, September 3, 2026, publishes in the Intellectual Property Registry section a large block of registration applications for factory, trade, and service marks submitted by large international corporations. The notices, which cover references Reg. 2026-M2971 to Reg. 2026-M3044, are disseminated in accordance with Article 19 of Law 380, Law on Trademarks and Other Distinctive Signs, and grant a period of 15 business days for third parties to file an opposition.

The applications were processed before the Intellectual Property Registry of Managua, under the signature of registrar Mario A. Jiménez Pichardo, and refer to products and services ranging from automotive and technology to food and energy. The publication of these notices constitutes the preliminary step to the final registration of the trademarks, which, once granted, will have a validity of ten years.

Automotive and Technology Sector Trademarks

The South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation, with attorney-in-fact Idalia María Sequeira Moreno, request the registration of the service mark PLEOS in classes 39 and 42, which covers transport logistics services, vehicle rental, and software design and development for the automotive industry, under files 2026-001310 and 2026-001312, submitted on May 13, 2026.

In the technological field, the Chinese company Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd., with attorney-in-fact Margie Isabel González, requests the mark OPPO LUMO (file 2026-002041), aimed at smartphones, accessories, and software. The same attorney represents Kellanova, from the United States, which is registering the mark KELLOGG’S ORIGINS FRUTELA in class 30, for cereals and cereal bars, under file 2026-001895.

Food, Beverages, and Energy

The Coca-Cola Company, from the United States, with attorney-in-fact Max Francisco López López, presents the mark HIELOCOS in classes 9, 21, 28, and 32, covering everything from non-alcoholic beverages and waters to kitchen utensils and games, in files 2026-002041 to 2026-002044, submitted on July 9, 2026. For its part, Grupo Bimbo S.A.B. de C.V., from Mexico, with attorney-in-fact Aura Lyla Torrez Zelaya, is processing registrations under references Reg. 2026-M3042 and Reg. 2026-M3044.

In the energy sector, the Nicaraguan company ZETA GAS NICARAGUA, S.A., with attorney-in-fact José Abelino Báez Blandino, requests the marks ZETA GAS and ZETA in class 4, for oils, lubricants, and liquefied petroleum gas, in files 2026-001837, 2026-001839, and 2026-001841.

Deadline for Opposition

Each notice published in the edition expressly indicates that it is valid for 15 business days starting from its delivery, after which, if no opposition is filed, the trademark may be registered. Interested parties may submit their observations to the Intellectual Property Registry in Managua.

The entry of these trademarks anticipates the arrival or consolidation of new products and services in the Nicaraguan market, from vehicles and technology to food, beverages, and fuels, which is of interest both to the companies competing in these sectors and to consumers who will see an expanded available offer.
