Moquegua será sede del XXVII Concurso Nacional del Pisco 2026

The Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) officialized the department of Moquegua as the venue and organizer of the XXVII National Pisco Contest 2026, through Ministerial Resolution No. 00320-2026-PRODUCE, signed in Lima on September 10, 2026, and published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Friday, September 11, 2026. The regulation was signed by the Minister of Production, Juan Carlos Requejo Alemán.

The decision was adopted following a call for proposals in which official letters were sent to the departments of Arequipa, Moquegua, Ica, Tacna, and Lima to present their candidacy proposals. According to the resolution, Moquegua’s proposal met the technical, logistical, operational, and budgetary requirements established in the Guide for the Presentation of Proposals, by accrediting the institutional capacity necessary to undertake the organization of the competition.

Regulatory framework of the contest

The contest is framed within Law No. 30460, which declares the promotion and dissemination of Peruvian wine and pisco as national beverages to be of national interest, and Supreme Decree No. 001-91-ICTI-IND, which officially recognizes pisco as a Peruvian designation of origin for products obtained from the distillation of ripe grape must from the coast of Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, and the valleys of Locumba, Sama, and Caplina in Tacna.

The annual holding of the competition was officialized through Ministerial Resolution No. 000154-2025-PRODUCE, which mandated its celebration during the third quarter of each year and tasked the General Directorate of Business Development with adopting the necessary actions for its organization. Likewise, Supreme Decree No. 014-2003-PRODUCE established the Multisectoral Pisco Commission (CONAPISCO), responsible for enhancing the competitive advantage and supporting the national and international promotion of pisco as Peru’s flagship beverage.

Selection of the venue

The choice of Moquegua was based on technical and legal reports from the sector’s directorates:

  • Report No. 00000028-2026-PRODUCE/DDP-gpachari from the Directorate of Productive Development, which accredited compliance with the requirements of the Guide for the Presentation of Proposals.
  • Report No. 00000029-2026-PRODUCE/DGDE-cpasachec from the General Directorate of Business Development, which supported the need to officialize Moquegua as the venue.
  • Report No. 00000525-2026-PRODUCE/DGPAR from the General Directorate of Policies and Regulatory Analysis, which considered the process viable.
  • Report No. 00001253-2026-PRODUCE/OGAJ from the General Office of Legal Counsel, which opined on the legal viability of the regulation.

Regional impact

The designation of Moquegua as the venue for the competition represents a direct boost to the wine and pisco economy of the region, which is part of the pisco grape-producing coast recognized by the denomination of origin. The competition, held annually during the third quarter, brings together producers from across the country and positions the host region as a benchmark for the activity, with effects on tourism, commercialization, and the strengthening of productive capacities of the sector’s MSMEs.
