Ministry of the Interior approves promotion vacancies for PNP officers

The Ministry of the Interior approved the vacancies for the competitive promotion of senior Line and Service officers of the National Police of Peru (PNP), corresponding to the 2026 process-Promotion 2027. The decision was formalized in Ministerial Resolution No. 1328-2026-IN, signed in Lima on September 5, 2026, and published in the official newspaper El Peruano (Year XLIII, No. 19505) on Monday, September 7, 2026.

The regulation responds to the proposal submitted by the PNP Human Resources Directorate through Report No. 64-2026-DIRREHUM PNP/DIVPNIBPP-SECPROFI, and declares the available positions so that active personnel can be promoted to the immediate superior rank in strict observance of the principles, requirements, and procedures established by law.

Regulatory framework of the process

The promotion is governed by Legislative Decree No. 1267, Law of the National Police of Peru, and its Regulation approved by Supreme Decree No. 012-2025-IN, as well as by Law No. 31873, which regulates the promotion processes of police personnel. The execution guidelines for the competition are set in Directive No. 006-2026-CG-PNP/DIRREHUM-DIVPNIBPP, approved by the General Command of the PNP and modified by resolutions No. 342-2026 and No. 542-2026.

Pursuant to Article 44 of Law No. 31873, vacancies are annual available positions in each rank and by functional specialty, and are approved by ministerial resolution for senior officers. The resolution is published in the Integrated Police Career Management System and in the official newspaper El Peruano.

Vacancies for Line officers

Article 1 of the resolution approves the positions for senior Line officers, distributed across three ranks:

• To Colonel: 110 vacancies
• To Commander: 150 vacancies
• To Major: 154 vacancies

Vacancies for Service officers

Article 2 approves the vacancies for senior Service officers, broken down by rank and profession. Among the positions for colonel, Medicine (5), Law (3), and Biology (2) stand out. For commander, Medicine (19), Law (7), and Nursing (6) are prominent; while for major, Psychology (20), Medicine (19), and Nursing (11) lead.

The called specialties include, among others:

• Social Work, Obstetrics, Dentistry, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry
• Administration, Accounting, Economics, and Anthropology
• Systems, Electronics, Industrial, Mechanical, and Chemical Engineering
• Medical Technology in clinical laboratory, radiology, and therapy and rehabilitation
• Nutrition, Psychology, Sociology, and Veterinary Medicine

Impact of the process

The approval of these vacancies enables the call for the 2026 competitive promotion process-2027 Promotion, which affects thousands of active-duty personnel of the National Police of Peru. The regulation establishes the schedule of activities in its Annex V, with the dates and deadlines for the development of the competition stages, and constitutes a key step for the renewal of the institution’s command staff.
