Miguel Suárez Curbelo will direct the Provincial Historical Archive of Tenerife

The Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture has appointed the civil servant Miguel Suárez Curbelo to job position no. 11077410, designated as head of service of the Provincial Historical Archive of Tenerife. The decision is formalized by the Order of September 15, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands no. 193, of September 25, 2026, in the section of appointments, situations and incidents (p. 35331). It is the only appointment included in that edition of the gazette.

The position is assigned to the General Directorate of Culture and Cultural Heritage and its provision was agreed upon through the free designation procedure, following the public call made via Resolution of the Technical General Secretariat of July 24, 2026 (BOC no. 157, of August 6, 2026). The position appears in the list of job positions modified by Decree 179/2025, of December 1, and the file includes certification accrediting budgetary allocation in accordance with article 53.4 of Law 9/2025, of December 23, on the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for 2026.

Free designation is governed by article 80.1 of the revised text of the Law of the Basic Statute of the Public Employee, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 5/2015, of October 30, and by article 78.3 of Law 2/1987, of March 30, of the Canarian Public Service. The order also invokes article 29.1.c) of Law 14/1990, of July 26, on the Legal Regime of the Canarian Public Administrations, and article 15.1 of Decree 212/1991, of September 11, on the organization of the Departments of the Autonomous Administration of the Canary Islands.

• September 3, 2026: report from the Technical General Secretariat on the fulfillment of requirements by the applicants.
• September 7, 2026: report-proposal from the General Directorate of Culture and Cultural Heritage.
• September 15, 2026: the minister Migdalia María Machín Tavío signs the resolution order in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Termination, taking office, and appeals

The appointed official shall cease their current position within three days starting from the day following the publication of the order and must take office within the same period if they reside on the same island, or within one month if they reside outside of it, starting from the day following the termination.

Against the order, which exhausts administrative remedies, an optional appeal for reversal may be filed before the Ministry within one month, or a contentious-administrative appeal within two months, in accordance with articles 123 and 124 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

The appointment places an official from the Archival Scale at the head of the Tenerife archive and directly affects the management of the Canarian documentary heritage, whose custody and internal organization are among the functions of the position. With the vacancy filled, the Ministry closes a procedure opened two months ago and completes the management structure of the General Directorate of Culture and Cultural Heritage.
