Mesía announces grants of up to 250 euros for school transport 2026-2027

The Mesía City Council announces grants for school transport for the 2026-2027 academic year, with a total budget of 6,400.00 euros and a maximum amount of 250.00 euros per beneficiary. The call is approved by Mayoral Decree no. 385/2026, of September 22, 2026, and published in the Official Gazette of the Province of A Coruña on September 28, 2026, number 185, with announcement number 2026/6188 and identifier BDNS 931116. The deadline for submitting applications ends on October 30, 2026.

The objective is to support students who reside in the municipality and are pursuing baccalaureate or professional training with a recognized degree outside the municipal limits, to facilitate their daily commute. Higher education, such as university and doctoral studies, are expressly excluded. The call is based on Base no. 18 of the 2026 municipal budget execution, Law 7/1985, of April 2, regulating the bases of local regime, Law 5/1997, of July 22, on Local Administration of Galicia, and Law 38/2003, of November 17, general law on subsidies. The budget is reserved in budgetary application 231.48000.

Requirements to access the grant

• Not exceed 25 years of age.
• Be registered in the Mesía City Council with one year of seniority.
• Be pursuing a baccalaureate or professional training with a recognized degree that requires daily travel outside the municipality.
• The family unit must be up to date with tax obligations and Social Security payments.
• Not exceed an annual gross per capita income equivalent to the minimum interprofessional wage multiplied by two.

The family unit is understood as the nucleus formed by the marriage or domestic partnership, ascendants and descendants under 18 years of age living in the same household, and adults under 25 years of age provided they are studying and do not earn an income.

Evaluation criteria

The determination of the beneficiaries is made by the sum of the points obtained:

• Family unit members: 1 point for each computable member.
• Annual gross per capita income: 8 points from 1 to 3,000 euros; 6 points from 3,001 to 6,000; 4 points from 6,001 to 9,000; and 2 points from 9,001 to 33,152 euros.
• Disability or impairment: 4 points for each affected member of the family unit.
• Distance from home to the study center: 2 points for less than 20 km; 4 points from 21 to 40 km; 6 points from 41 to 60 km; and 8 points for more than 60 km.

The 2025 SMI, fixed at 1,184 euros per month, multiplied by two, is taken as a reference.

Evaluation Commission and deadline

The study and evaluation of the applications correspond to the Evaluation Commission, composed of:

• Mariano Iglesias Castro, mayor-president of the Mesía City Council, as president.
• Pilar Sánchez Ulloa, first deputy mayor and councillor for Culture, Education, Equality and Youth, as member.
• Gervasio Sánchez Barreiro, second deputy mayor, as member.
• María José Sesmonde Quinteiro, council representative, as member.
• Eladio Bendaña Pardo, secretary-auditor, as secretary.

If the observed defects are rectifiable, their correction will be required within a non-extendable period of ten days; if they are non-rectifiable, inadmissibility will be proposed. The guidelines are available on the municipal website (www.concellodemesia.gal) and on the council’s notice board.

The call responds to a recurring need of families in Mesía, who must send their children outside the municipality to pursue baccalaureate or vocational training. The limit of 250 euros per student and the budget of 6,400 euros condition the real scope of the measure, while the deadline, which ends on October 30, 2026, sets the immediate calendar for submitting applications.
