The Plenary Session of the City Council of Merindad de Montija (Burgos), in an ordinary session on August 12, 2026, approved the guidelines for the call for grants for the acquisition of textbooks for students in the municipality for the 2026-2027 school year. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Burgos, number 166, dated September 2, 2026, with reference BOPBUR-2026-03646, within section III of Local Administration.
The grants finance the purchase of textbooks for students enrolled in the second cycle of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education, Vocational Training, and Baccalaureate. The first cycle of Early Childhood Education (ages 0 to 3) is excluded. The beneficiaries are the father, mother, or legal guardian of the student.
Amounts and Beneficiaries
The aid is structured in two ways depending on the center the student attends. Those studying at the school in Espinosa de los Monteros benefit from proportional financing of the center’s book bank, in the amount that the city council has been contributing per child in previous years. For the rest, an amount is set according to the studies pursued:
- Early Childhood Education (second cycle, ages 3 to 6): 60.00 euros.
- Primary Education: 70.00 euros.
- Compulsory Secondary Education: 90.00 euros.
- Baccalaureate: 90.00 euros.
The city council forecasts a total expenditure of 2,000 euros. The fixed amount applies to students attending centers in Medina, Villarcayo, or others, and, except for exceptions, corresponds to those registered in Quintanilla de Pienza, Revilla de Pienza, Gayangos, Baranda, Bárcena de Pienza, Quintanahedo, and Cuestahedo.
Requirements and Documentation
To access the aid, it is necessary to be registered in the municipality of Merindad de Montija prior to July 31, 2026, and to be enrolled in any educational center. Along with the application, the certificate from the center where the student is enrolled for the 2026/2027 course must be provided, with an express indication of the studies being pursued. The city council will officially verify the registration and the status of father, mother, or legal guardian.
Deadlines, Resolution, and Payment
Applications are addressed to the mayor-president and submitted at the municipal offices of Villasante de Montija, from 10:00 to 14:30 hours, Monday to Friday, or through the city council’s electronic office. The submission period is one month from the publication of the grant summary in the Official Gazette of the Province of Burgos. The Local Government Board will resolve within one month from the end of the application period, and payment will be made via bank transfer, following verification that tax obligations with the city council are up to date.
The call, signed by the mayor-president Florencio Martínez López in Villasante on August 18, 2026, provides direct relief for the families of the municipality in a school year where the cost of school materials once again weighs on domestic finances, and reinforces the municipal commitment to equal access to education in rural areas.
