Melilla announces grants of 400 euros per secondary school student

The Autonomous City of Melilla has published in the Official Gazette of the Autonomous City of Melilla (BOME) number 6408, dated August 25, 2026, the call for financial aid for textbooks, materials, and school transport for Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) corresponding to the 2026-2027 academic year. The measure, promoted by the Ministry of Presidency, Public Administration, and Equality, provides aid of 400 euros per student with a maximum budget of 1,150,000 euros, aimed at Melilla families with lower incomes.

Purpose and amount of the aid

The grants are awarded on a competitive basis to cover the acquisition of textbooks, school materials, and school transport expenses for students enrolled in ESO during the 2026-2027 academic year. The amount to be received by each beneficiary student will be 400 euros, which must be allocated to the specified schooling expenses.

The expenditure is financed through Budget Application 03/32401/48000 (SECONDARY EDUCATION GRANTS), via the Comptroller’s credit retention number 12026000034477, dated July 17, 2026, for a total amount of 1,150,000 euros. The processed file is number 26091/2026.

Requirements and award criteria

Applicants must be registered as residents (empadronados) in Melilla at the time of the publication of the call. The award is ordered based on the income of the family unit, according to the following criteria:

• Students whose family income does not exceed the threshold of 28,000 euros in the year 2025, applying the criterion of the highest number of family unit members, with one point for each computable member.
• Students from family units whose per capita income does not exceed 5,000 euros, which will be addressed against the budget.
• In the event of a tie in the scoring, the order of entry of the applications in the registry will be taken into account.

Deadline and submission of applications

The deadline for submitting applications is one month, counting from the day following the publication of the call in the Official Gazette of the City of Melilla. Applications may be submitted:

• Through the official website of the Autonomous City of Melilla (www.melilla.es).
• At the Network of Information and Citizen Service Offices, with a prior appointment for in-person processing.
• Through the Electronic Office of the Autonomous City of Melilla (sede.melilla.es).

Along with the application, documentation proving the identity of the student and the parents or guardians, the Family Book, bank details including IBAN, enrollment in ESO for the 2026-2027 academic year, and the required formal declarations must be provided. The call for applications is governed by the Regulatory Bases for Financial Aid for Textbooks, Materials, and School Transport for ESO (Extraordinary BOME number 13, dated March 15, 2023).

The call, signed by the Minister of Presidency, Public Administration, and Equality, represents direct support for Melilla families with fewer resources at a time of high costs for the start of the school year.
