Melilla opens the call for Ciudad del Deporte 2026 sports scholarships

The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Autonomous City of Melilla has published the call for institutional grants through competitive bidding for scholarships intended for Melillan athletes called “Melilla City of Sport” for the 2026 fiscal year. The allocation amounts to 90,000 euros, 100% financed by the Autonomous City, and is divided into 19 scholarships across three levels. The call appears in the Official Gazette of the Autonomous City of Melilla (BOME) number 6413, dated September 11, 2026, via the abstract (article BOME-A-2026-1024) and Order No. 1567, dated September 7, 2026 (article BOME-A-2026-1025).

The call is issued under the General Grants Law 38/2003, of November 17, and the Regulatory Bases of these scholarships, approved by the Governing Council on March 14, 2025, and published in the extraordinary BOME no. 21, of March 26, 2025. The credit is charged to the 2026 budget application 14 34100 48000 “Sports Grants,” according to credit retention number 12026000037311, of July 23, 2026. Amounts and distribution of scholarships

The amount for each level and the number of scholarships offered are distributed as follows:

• Gold Scholarships: 3 scholarships of €10,000 each.
• Silver Scholarships: 6 scholarships of €5,000 each.
• Bronze Scholarships: 10 scholarships of €3,000 each.
• Total: 19 scholarships and €90,000.

If the number of scholarships to be awarded is lower than offered, the unallocated amount will revert to the corresponding budget application to finance activities in the Sports area.

Requirements and submission of applications

Natural persons with Spanish nationality and Melillan status, registered in the city for a minimum of three years, with an uninterrupted federative license since January 1, 2025, and who are at least 14 years old, may apply. Those sanctioned for doping or for violence, racism, xenophobia, and intolerance in sport, or those who are not up to date with their tax and Social Security obligations, are excluded.

Applications shall be submitted through the electronic office of the Autonomous City or at the admitted registries, addressed to the Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, within a period of 15 calendar days from the day following the publication in the BOME. Evaluation and procedural bodies

Merits are scored according to a scale that awards up to 1,000 points to Olympic or Paralympic medalists, and also values results in world, European, and Spanish championships, as well as the status of high-level or high-performance athlete. The proposal for granting is issued by a collegiate body chaired by Ángel Guerrero Molino, Director General of Sports Policy, with Javier Hierro Moreno and Gerardo Estruch Casals as members and Oliver Sánchez Vargas as secretary. The resolution will be issued by Order of the Counselor within a maximum period of six months, and beneficiaries must justify expenses within 15 days of the grant.

The call reinforces public support for local sporting talent, with funding entirely financed by the Autonomous City and aimed at athletes with potential for high-level competition. For the Melillan sporting fabric, it represents a concrete opportunity to finance preparation, technical training, and participation in competitions, within the framework of the 2024-2026 strategic subsidy plan.
