Marratxí and Education sign an agreement to implement the Aula Mentor

The Marratxí City Council and the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports have signed an agreement for the development of the “Aula Mentor” open training program, which will bring distance learning to the adult population of the Mallorcan municipality. The agreement, signed on September 7, 2026, is published via the Resolution of September 9, 2026, of the Technical General Secretariat in the Official State Gazette number 228, of September 15, 2026, in section III, page 122323 (official reference: BOE-A-2026-19246).

The agreement is framed within article 5.4 of Organic Law 2/2006, of May 3, on Education, which urges administrations to promote flexible learning offers for young people and adults who left the educational system without a qualification. The signature corresponds to the General Secretariat for Vocational Training, competent in matters of territorial cooperation and lifelong learning according to Royal Decree 274/2024, of March 19.

A consolidated program with over thirty years

“Aula Mentor” is an open, flexible training initiative via the internet, regulated by article 8 of Royal Decree 789/2015, of September 4, and managed by the Professional Guidance and Lifelong Learning Unit. The program has existed for over thirty years and has been recognized by the European Union as one of its 14 best practices in non-formal distance education.

• It requires no access requirements and adapts to the learning rhythms of the adult population.
• It relies on personalized tutorial support and specific materials for distance work.
• Local facilities act as resource and socialization centers, where the final in-person evaluation test is conducted.

Commitments and classroom location

The Marratxí City Council will provide the physical facilities and technological equipment, as well as the classroom manager and the professional information and guidance staff. The classroom will be located at:

• Aula Mentor 1: Calle Balanguera, s/n, 07141 Marratxí.

For its part, the Ministry will facilitate access to the courses, the selection and training of telematic tutors, and the certification of learning after passing the evaluation tests. The agreement does not involve any financial transfer between the parties, following a sustainable model funded by student enrollment fees.

Validity and monitoring

The agreement will be valid for four years, extendable for another period of equal duration by express agreement of the parties. For its control, a Monitoring Commission will be created, consisting of two representatives from the Marratxí City Council and three from the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports.

The implementation of the “Aula Mentor” expands the local training offer of Marratxí and brings distance education and digital skills closer to a population that, due to its location, may be far from large urban centers. Furthermore, the agreement will be made available to citizens on the Transparency Portal, in application of Law 19/2013, of December 9.
