Mairena del Aljarafe announces grants for the MAIFF 2026 Festival

The Mairena del Aljarafe City Council has announced the grants and awards for the MairenaCreativa MAIFF 2026 Short Film Festival, with a maximum budget of 5,900 euros and three categories under a competitive bidding process. The call, approved by resolution of the Area of Promotion and Commitment to Youth and Equality, is published in the Official Gazette of the province of Seville number 166, dated August 27, 2026, pages 131 and 132.

The call is formalized through the Municipal Institute for Citizen Dynamization (IMDC) and is part of the Mairena Creativa-MAIFF 2026 program. Its regulatory basis is the ordinance approved by the Plenary Council in the session of September 17, 2020, published in full in the Official Gazette of the province of Seville number 26, dated February 2, 2021. Three categories for young filmmakers

The call includes three participation modalities, each with its own access requirements:

• MAIFF Official Section: individual or group filmmakers may participate, with no limit on the number of works submitted.
• MAIFF Local Section: at least 50% of the technical or artistic team must be from Mairena del Aljarafe; if the percentage is lower, one of the roles of direction, script, cinematography, production, or lead characters must be held by a resident of the municipality.
• 36-Hour Contest: at least 75% of the group must be 30 years old or younger.

Awards and financial allocation

The grant is charged to the budget item 004-33420-48200 “Youth Grants”, with a maximum amount of 5,900 euros. The prizes are distributed among the three categories:

• Official Section: 1st MAIFF Prize (€1,200 + trophy), AAMMA Prize (€400), CIMA Prize for the best short film directed by a woman (€400), Audience Award (€500), best direction (€300), best script (€300), Canal Sur Prize, and mentions for acting, photography, editing, sound, and production.
• Local Section: 1st Prize for Best Local Short Film (€300) and Audience Award (€500).
• 36-Hour Contest: first prize (€800), Pepe Jiménez Prize (€500), best script (€200), best direction (€200), and Audience Award (€300), in addition to mentions for acting, photography, sound, editing, and production.

Prizes exceeding 300 euros are subject to IRPF (income tax) withholding, set at 19% at the time the rules were drafted.

Deadlines and submission of applications

Applications are processed through the electronic office of the IMDC, attaching the annexes and required documentation. Deadlines differ according to the modality:

• Official and local section: works must be submitted through the FestHome platform, under the MAIFF 2026 profile, within 10 calendar days from the day following the publication of the rules in the Official Gazette of the province of Seville.
• 36-hour contest: registration remains open from the publication of the rules until October 8, 2026, to be submitted via the electronic office of the IMDC.

The resolution, signed on August 25, 2026, by the Councilwoman-Delegate of the Area of Promotion and Commitment to Youth and Equality, Laura María Pérez Prieto, reinforces municipal support for youth audiovisual creation and local production, consolidating Mairena del Aljarafe as a benchmark for short films in the province of Seville.
