Madrid y la Fundación Ortega-Marañón financian la exposición La memoria del pensamiento

The Community of Madrid and the Ortega-Marañón Foundation will produce and mount the exhibition “The Memory of Thought,” which will be held at the Ortega-Marañón Cultural Space in the final quarter of 2026. The agreement involves a public contribution of up to 26,500 euros, compared to the 32,500 euros committed by the foundation. The agreement was signed on September 14, 2026, and is published in the BOCM no. 248, of October 17, 2026, section I.D) Announcements, pages 278 to 284 (reference BOCM-20261017-22).

An agreement derived from the 2024 protocol

The text is based on the General Protocol of Action signed on October 10, 2024, between the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage and the Spanish Language Office and the Ortega-Marañón Foundation for the joint implementation and dissemination of cultural projects. The fourth clause of that protocol requires any action involving financial expenditure to be articulated through a specific agreement, detailing the legal, technical, and economic aspects of the project.

The agreement is administrative in nature and is governed by Law 40/2015, of October 1, on the Legal Regime of the Public Sector. Its validity extends from the signing until June 30, 2027, and its publication in the bulletin complies with article 23.2 of Law 10/2019, of April 10, on Transparency and Participation of the Community of Madrid, which requires the text to be disseminated within twenty days following the signature.

The agreement is signed by the Director General of Cultural Heritage and the Spanish Language Office, Bartolomé González Jiménez, by delegation of the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sport according to Order 550/2026, of March 30, and the Director General of the foundation, Lucía Sala Silveira.

Distribution of expenses between the two entities

The Community of Madrid, as a co-organizing entity, will contract and pay using budget allocation 04.011 332B 28001:

  • 2026 Fiscal Year: up to 20,500 euros plus taxes, with the following breakdown: curatorship, up to 3,500 euros; museographic design, up to 4,500 euros; design and production of audiovisuals, 9,000 euros; parallel activities, up to 3,500 euros.
  • 2027 Fiscal Year: up to 6,000 euros plus taxes, entirely for parallel activities.
  • Total between both fiscal years: up to 26,500 euros plus corresponding taxes.

The Ortega-Marañón Foundation will assume the production of the exhibition up to a maximum of 20,000 euros and the mounting up to 12,500 euros, totaling 32,500 euros plus taxes. To this, it adds the provision of the exhibition hall under standard security and maintenance conditions, the management and coordination of the material organization, works from its funds, images for the catalog and graphics, the photographic report, and the use of the assembly hall for activities linked to the exhibition.

Catalogue, parallel activities, and monitoring

The object of the agreement encompasses the complete material assembly—design, construction, and dismantling—and the associated cultural programming: catalogue, conferences, and round tables. The exhibition project and all promotional material must be approved by both parties, and brochures, catalogues, press releases, and websites shall include the mention “Exhibition organized by the Community of Madrid and the Ortega-Marañón Foundation.” The foundation will deliver 50 catalogues to the Community for its institutional commitments.

Monitoring will be the responsibility of a joint Monitoring Commission composed, on the regional side, of the Deputy Director General of Books and the Head of the Dissemination and Publications Area; and on the foundation’s side, by its Director General and its Director of Culture. Institutional invitations will be handled by the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sport and the president of the foundation.

An institution with a liberal legacy

The Ortega-Marañón Foundation is a private non-profit entity born in 2010 from the merger of the José Ortega y Gasset Foundation (established in 1978) and the Gregorio Marañón Foundation (1988). It dedicates its activity to the promotion of culture, training, debate, and research in Social Sciences, Humanities, and Health Sciences, and publishes, among other publications, the Revista de Occidente.

The exhibition is thus aligned with the exhibition line that the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Sport develops through the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and the Spanish Language Office, to which Decree 264/2023, of December 5, attributes the promotion and dissemination of regional cultural heritage through exhibitions, activities, and publications.

The agreement allows the Community of Madrid to program an exhibition of intellectual content with a maximum expenditure of 26,500 euros, less than half of the cost committed by the private entity, and guarantees the holding of parallel activities until June 2027. For the reader, the agreement also provides documentary evidence of the distribution of expenses and the obligations of each party, which can be consulted in the regional bulletin.
