Mérida hybridizes two solar plants with batteries for 8.65 million
Por FactBox Admin

The Official Gazette of Extremadura (DOE), number 157, of Friday, August 14, 2026, publishes two announcements from the Regional Ministry of Industry, Energy, Science and Territory whereby the hybridization with batteries of the photovoltaic plants “PR2” and “PR3” in Mérida (Badajoz) is submitted to public information. The applications, submitted by Bloggers Energías Renovables, SL, total approximately 16.6 MW of electrochemical storage and a joint budget of 8.65 million euros, and open a 30-business-day period for comments.
Both plants already have prior administrative authorization and construction authorization granted in April 2023 by the Directorate General of Industry, Energy and Mines — the prior authorization for PR2 was published in DOE number 73, of April 18, 2023 — and an operating authorization in favor of the developer since May 2025. The request now is to modify the prior authorization to incorporate the BESS PR2 and BESS PR3 storage modules, a procedure that complies with Law 24/2013, of December 26, on the Electricity Sector, and article 125 of Royal Decree 1955/2000, of December 1.
Two twin projects in plot 204
The battery modules will be located in polygon 78, plot 204, in Mérida, and will only allow part of the electrical energy generated by each photovoltaic plant to be stored. Their main characteristics:
- BESS PR2 (file GE-M/77/20): 8,946 kW of installed power, 7 battery containers with 35,105 kWh of total capacity and a material execution budget of €4,632,828.76.
- BESS PR3 (file GE-M/78/20): 7,668 kW of installed power, 6 containers with 30,090 kWh of total capacity and a budget of €4,022,833.20.
- Charge/discharge time of 4 hours, 213 kW inverters and a 9,000 kVA transformer (15/0.8 kV) per module.
Evacuation infrastructure
Each battery will be connected by means of a 15 kV underground line — 99 meters in PR2 and 100 meters in PR3 — to the existing switching center, “CS FV PR2” and “CS FV PR3”, which will be expanded with a new line cell. The lines from the photovoltaic generation module and the storage module will converge at these switching centers.
Period for comments
The modification requests were submitted on 26 March (PR2) and 28 April 2026 (PR3) by Mr. Alfredo Fernández Agras and Mr. Hugo Álvarez López on behalf of Bloggers Energías Renovables, SL, with CIF B90397464 and registered address in Madrid. The documentation may be examined at the Directorate General of Industry, Energy and Mines, at Paseo de Roma s/n, module D, 1st floor, in Mérida, from 8:00 to 15:00 hours, and consulted on the public information website of the energy area of the Regional Government of Extremadura. Comments must be submitted to that body within 30 business days from the day following publication, and the notices are signed on 6 August 2026 by the Secretary General, María Concepción Montero Gómez, acting for the Director General.
The hybridization will make it possible to store the solar energy generated in Mérida and feed it into the grid when demand requires, in line with the drive to boost renewable storage in Extremadura. The public information procedure gives residents and entities the opportunity to comment before the Regional Government decides on projects with a combined investment of €8.65 million.
