Environmental green light for a poultry house for 84,000 chickens in Robledo

The Provincial Delegation for Sustainable Development of Albacete has issued a favorable environmental impact statement (DIA) for the project to construct a poultry house for the expansion of an intensive broiler chicken farm in the municipality of Robledo (Albacete). The resolution, signed on August 31, 2026, by the provincial delegate María Llanos Valero Hernández, is published in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha (DOCM) number 173, dated September 9, 2026, with reference 2026/6465 and file S478/2026/AB/00107.

The report, which is mandatory and decisive, concludes that the project is viable from an environmental standpoint provided that it is executed in accordance with the submitted Environmental Impact Study and the prescriptions of the resolution itself. The action falls under Annex I, group 1, section a, subsection 2 of the Law 2/2020, of February 7, on Environmental Assessment of Castilla-La Mancha, as it exceeds the capacity of 55,000 spaces for chickens.

Promoters and project scope

The promoters are Ángel Peláez Avilés, Laura Peláez Muñoz, and Mirian Peláez Muñoz, while the substantive body is the City Council of Robledo. The existing farm has two houses with a capacity of 50,000 chickens per cycle per house, with five annual cycles; the new house will add 34,000 spaces per cycle, for a total of 84,000 broilers per cycle.

• Heavy breed (Gallus gallus), supplied by an integrating company at one day old.
• Transport to the slaughterhouse at 45-49 days, with a weight of around 2 kg.
• Estimated density of 31.80 kg/m² and a sanitary void of 12 days between cycles.
• Projected house of 130 x 17.5 m, with a feeding area of 2,135 m² of useful surface.

The action takes place in the Casa de las Pulgas area, on plot 255 of polygon 5, with cadastral reference 02068A005002550000JY, approximately 2,000 m southwest of Robledo and parallel to the N-322 road.

Processing and consultations

The request for environmental assessment was received on August 4, 2025. The Environmental Impact Study was available for public review in the DOCM from April 23, 2026, and on the electronic headquarters of the City Council until June 8, 2026, with no objections filed. The substantive body consulted a dozen organizations, including the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation, the Castilla-La Mancha Water Agency, the Albacete Ornithological Society (SAO), Ecologistas en Acción, and WWF/Adena.

Environmental conditions

The plot is located outside the Regional Network of Protected Areas, although it is within the foraging area of the Spanish imperial eagle and the dispersal area of the booted eagle; therefore, execution will be carried out under the supervision of environmental agents. Key measures include the waterproofing of floors, the management of poultry manure by an authorized manager without outdoor storage, and compliance with bird protection regulations regarding power lines.

The environmental impact statement will expire if execution does not begin within four years of its publication, and it does not exempt the requirement to obtain urban planning licenses and other municipal authorizations.
