Green light for the N-502 roundabout in Herrera del Duque

The State Road Demarcation of Extremadura, under the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz (number 175, dated September 14, 2026) the resolution provisionally approving the layout project “Improvement of road safety. Construction of a roundabout and reorganization of accesses at the existing intersection on the N-502. P.K. 232+822”, in the municipality of Herrera del Duque. The announcement, with reference 3357/2026, subjects the project to public consultation for 30 business days.
The resolution, signed on July 1, 2026, by the Deputy Director General for Conservation and Asset Management, acting on behalf of the Director General of Roads (pursuant to Order TMA/1007/2021, of September 9, as amended by OM TMA/355/2023), sets an estimated base tender budget, including VAT, of 1,455,965.98 euros. The project is processed under the key 33-BA-4410 and is declared urgent under Article 12.2 of Law 37/2015, of September 29, on Roads, as worded by Royal Decree-Law 18/2018.
Public information and expropriations
The public information process is initiated for the purposes of the declaration of public utility and the need for urgent occupation of the assets and rights included in the project layout, as well as the restoration of affected services. It will also serve to notify interested parties of the reorganization of accesses carried out by the project, in order to improve road operation and road safety, pursuant to Article 36 of Law 37/2015.
The public information for expropriation purposes is processed according to Articles 17, 18, and 19.1 of the Compulsory Expropriation Law, of December 16, 1954. The file will be available at the headquarters of the Demarcation, at Avenida de Europa 1, 7th floor, Badajoz, and on the website of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, where any natural or legal person may submit allegations.
Affected properties
The list of assets and rights requiring occupation includes 17 rural properties in the municipality of Herrera del Duque, with areas of permanent occupation, easement, and temporary occupation. Among the owners are:
- Isidro Calero Almodóvar, Escolástico Calero Almodóvar, Isabelo Calero Almodóvar and Víctor Calero Almodóvar
- Most Excellent City Council of Herrera del Duque (several plots)
- María Mercedes Rubio Merino, Juan Eduardo García Sánchez and Esther María Garcías Carapeto
- María Consolación Babiano Sanz, Gregorio Ledesma Ledesma and family members
- José Luis Ledesma Mijarra and siblings, María Carmen Chacón Gómez, Ángel Paniagua Vaquerizo and Victoria Barba Casco
- José Rodríguez Zarza and Jacinta Ledesma Moraga
Consulted Bodies
The project will be submitted for the report of the affected bodies and service holders, including the City Council of Herrera del Duque, the Guadiana Hydrographic Confederation, the Departments of the Junta de Extremadura and the Provincial Council of Badajoz. Service holders will also be consulted, including Enagás, Gas Natural Distribución, Gas Extremadura, Redexis Gas, Endesa, Iberdrola, Orange, Telefónica, Vodafone España and Extremeña de Comunicaciones por Cable.
The announcement is signed by the Chief Engineer of the Demarcation, Antonio J. Ruiz-Roso Gómez. The action, which is part of the improvement of road safety at an intersection of the state network, will involve a relevant investment for traffic in the La Siberia region, while opening a period of citizen participation and expropriation impact for the owners of the involved estates.
