Lugo opens enrollment for the Municipal School of Music for 2026-2027

The Lugo City Council opens the enrollment process for the Municipal School of Music for the 2026-2027 academic year, after approving the bases and the call that will govern student admission. The resolution, signed by the deputy mayor delegated to the Culture Area, Javier Vázquez Prado, was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Lugo number 191, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with the reference R. 2253.

Deadline and submission of applications

Interested parties may submit their application from the day following the publication in the BOP until September 15, 2026. Applications shall be submitted at the General Registry of the Lugo City Council, the Auxiliary Registry of the Municipal School of Music, or through any of the means provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of Common Administrative Procedure.

The documentation that must be provided is as follows:

• Application on the specific form (Annex 1), signed by the mother, father, or legal representative in the case of minors.
• Photocopy of the DNI of the interested person or their legal representative.
• Document accrediting ownership of the account for the direct debit of payments.
• One passport-sized photograph.

Those who do not submit the application within the deadline may do so starting from October 1, provided that there are vacant places and a favorable report from the teaching staff, remaining in any case on a waiting list.

Public draw and allocation of places

The allocation of places and the choice of schedules will be resolved through a public draw by letter, which will take place at the School itself on September 23 at 11:00 AM. Priority will be determined by the order resulting from the draw, applied to the allocation criteria established by blocks:

• Instrumental training (blocks A and B): students who are already studying the same instrument, those requesting an instrument for the first time after completing Musical Language, Basic Training 2, or Adult Training, new entry students, and those wishing to change instruments.
• Theoretical training (block C): students who completed the preceding subject and students enrolling for the first time.

Provisional lists of admitted, excluded, and waiting students will be published, with a period of 5 business days for appeals, and subsequently the final lists with the call for the choice of schedules.

Bonuses and fees

The payment of fees will be governed by the municipal Fiscal Ordinance number 405, regulating the public price for the provision of the School’s services, with the provided bonuses and exemptions:

• Reduction of 50% for students who are the third or subsequent member of the family unit to enroll, using the highest fee as a reference.
• Reduction of 25% for students from large families or with net annual incomes lower than 3,610 euros per member of the family unit.
• Exemption from payment for students who enroll in the block subject to the promotion campaign, which for the 2026-2027 course will be block D, according to the decision of the teaching staff.

Teaching will be provided by municipal personnel assigned to the Municipal Band and/or the City Council Music School, and the school calendar will be governed by that established annually by the Xunta de Galicia for the Department of Education.

Impact

The call affects hundreds of families in Lugo, who have less than a month to formalize enrollment in a school that combines instrumental and theoretical training with social bonuses. The public draw by letter ensures a transparent distribution of places and schedules, in a process that ends the administrative route and against which ordinary appeals may be filed.
