Castilla-La Mancha school councils vote on November 25

The Vice-Ministry of Education, Universities and Research of Castilla-La Mancha has set Wednesday, November 25, 2026, as the single date for the election and renewal of school councils in publicly funded educational centers providing non-university education. The decision is published in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha on September 24, 2026, within the section of other provisions and acts, via the Resolution of 17/09/2026 (2026/6790). The calendar affects families, teachers, and students across the region.

The resolution is based on Decree 93/2022, of August 16, which regulates the composition, organization, and functioning of the school council of public non-university educational centers in Castilla-La Mancha. Article 14.1 establishes that the procedure for electing members of the School Council must take place during the first trimester of the academic year. To properly organize the electoral process and encourage the participation of the different sectors of the educational community, the Ministry has opted to determine a single date for all centers where the election or renewal of their respective school councils is required.

The text is issued in the exercise of the powers attributed by Decree 108/2023, of July 28, which establishes the organic structure and distribution of competencies of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. The resolution bears the signature of the Vice-Minister María del Mar Torrecilla Sánchez and is dated in Toledo on September 17, 2026.

Electoral calendar and exceptions

The regulation provides an adjustment mechanism for cases where the fixed date is not a business day. If the established day is a non-working day in any locality, the Electoral Board shall order that the vote be held on the business day immediately preceding or following the designated date.

Furthermore, the Electoral Board of each center will be responsible for specifying and publishing the electoral calendar, in accordance with the provisions of the first section of the resolution. In this way, the regional date acts as a common framework, while each center details its own internal deadlines.

The resolution shall take effect on the day following its publication in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, that is, as of September 25, 2026.

Appeal and administrative route

The text includes the standard challenge regime for this type of administrative act:

• The resolution does not exhaust the administrative route.
• An appeal for reversal (recurso de alzada) may be filed against it before the Counselor of Education, Culture, and Sports.
• The deadline for filing is one month.
• The legal basis invoked are articles 30, 31, 121, and 122 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

The call is issued slightly more than two months prior to the voting day, a margin that the Department justifies by the need to coordinate the process across all affected centers and to promote the participation of families, teachers, and students in the governing bodies of schools and institutes. Furthermore, the single date prevents the renewal of school councils from being dispersed throughout the quarter and allows the electoral boards of each center to work with a homogeneous calendar across the entire autonomous community.
