Logofoniatría changes to Logopeda: Health Department opens the order to public information

The Ministry of Presidency, Health, and Emergencies has opened for public consultation the draft Order that will change the designation of the category of Specialist Technician in Logophoniatrics to Speech Therapist (Logopeda) in the health centers of the Andalusian Health Service. The decision is formalized through a resolution from the Technical General Secretariat of Health and Consumption dated October 22, 2026, and published in the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía number 208, of October 27, 2026, under text no. 14055.

The announcement appears in section 3, Other provisions, and occupies two pages of the gazette. This is not a completely new regulation, but rather a modification: the draft Order changes the text of the Order of January 28, 2022, the regulation that had already adapted, in the health centers of the Andalusian Health Service, the designation of this category to the qualification required for access.

The operation has two linked effects. On one hand, it sets the name of the category as Speech Therapist, the designation already used in the organization’s employment calls. On the other, it modifies the annexes of the Order of April 5, 1990, which establishes the functional regime of the staff of the Care Centers of the Andalusian Health Service.

What changes in practice

The change affects the administrative identity of a healthcare professional category, not its care functions: the resolution opening the process describes the action as an adaptation of the designation to the qualification required for access. The reference to the title of Speech Therapist replaces that of Logophoniatrics in the official documentation of the category.

The second front is that of the staffing lists. By modifying the annexes of the Order of April 5, 1990, the adjustment reaches the list of categories and positions with which the care centers of the Andalusian Health Service are organized, so that the new designation must be reflected wherever the previous one currently appears.

A process open in the Official Gazette

The opening of the process occurs five days after the signing of the resolution and turns the text into a draft open to observations before its final approval by the ministry.

A category with selection processes underway

The name change arrives with the category fully active in the personnel procedures of the Andalusian Health Service. In the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía number 46, dated March 9, 2026, the call for a transfer competition for the provision of vacant basic positions, including those for Speech Therapist, was published; gazette number 190, dated September 30, 2026, included a correction of errors for that call (text no. 12688).

By October, gazette number 192, dated October 2, 2026, published the provisional resolution of the transfer competition for Speech Therapist positions (text no. 12902) and the provisional lists of candidates who passed the competitive examination for this category, called in development of the public employment offers of 2022, 2023, and 2024. The designation Speech Therapist is, therefore, the one already used by the calls and the lists of candidates.

The relevance of the procedure is twofold. For professionals, it consolidates in administrative language the name linked to their qualification and avoids duplication between the category label and that of the selection processes in which they participate. For the Andalusian Health Service, it organizes the designation in the staffing lists of its healthcare centers and closes an adjustment that the Administration itself had already been applying in practice.
