The Balearic Islands grant 417,910 euros in subsidies for electric mobility

The Department of Enterprise, Self-Employed and Energy of the Balearic Islands has approved the granting of 417,910 euros in subsidies to 84 beneficiaries of the electric mobility support program MOVES III 2025. The decision is detailed in Resolution 8732, signed in Palma on August 20, 2026, and published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) number 109, dated September 1, 2026, in Section III, page 47478.

The resolution, issued by delegation of the regional minister, is signed by the Director General of Circular Economy, Energy Transition and Climate Change, Diego Viu Domínguez. The grants come from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through funds from the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), within the framework of the European Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

A program funded with European funds

The call for applications was published on July 3, 2025, via the Resolution of the Minister of Enterprise, Employment and Energy dated July 1, 2025 (BOIB no. 85). Following the provisional proposal issued on May 21, 2026 (BOIB no. 68, of May 30), and after the period for submitting allegations had expired, the final resolution has now been issued.

The grants are awarded charged to budget item 2026/G/731A01/78000/00/19701/25183 of the Autonomous Community’s budgets. The subsidized investments must be carried out between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2026, and the maximum deadline for justifying them is December 31, 2026.

What is subsidized

The program covers two lines of action:

• Program 1: acquisition of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, with grants that vary according to the category of the vehicle and whether an old vehicle is scrapped.
• Program 2: deployment of charging infrastructure, subject in some cases to the limits of Regulation (EU) 2023/2831 on de minimis aid.

Among the amounts set for program 1 are, for example, 7,000 euros for category M1 electric vehicles with scrapping, 4,500 euros without scrapping, and 1,100 to 1,300 euros for category L3e electric motorcycles. The subsidized vehicle must appear in the IDAE database of eligible vehicles.

Obligations of the beneficiaries

The 84 beneficiaries, individuals and companies, must comply with the obligations of the call, including:

• Carrying out the investment and justifying its completion before December 31, 2026.
• Communicating any other concurrent subsidy for the same purpose.
• Being up to date with tax obligations and Social Security.
• Maintaining the investment for a minimum period of two years (program 1) or five years (program 2).
• Submitting to the control actions of the IDAE, the General Comptroller, and the Audit Office.

The resolution, which exhausts the administrative route, may be appealed for reversal before the regional minister within one month or directly before the Contentious Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands within two months.

A boost to transport decarbonization

With this resolution, the Balearic Government deploys a new round of direct grants that facilitate access to electric vehicles and charging infrastructure for individuals and companies. The measure is part of the transport decarbonization strategy, one of the central axes of the Islands’ energy transition, and represents a concrete stimulus to reduce emissions from the archipelago’s vehicle fleet.
