Leitrim Council Approves Pay Parking Bye-Laws for Carrick-on-Shannon
Por FactBox Admin

Leitrim County Council has made the Leitrim County Council Parking Control (Pay Parking) Bye-Laws 2026 in respect of the town of Carrick-on-Shannon, acting in accordance with the provisions of the Road Traffic Act 1994. The notice of making states that the bye-laws “will come into place 30 days from the date of this Notice”, placing commencement at 26 November 2026. The instrument is published in Iris Oifigiúil, Number 86 of Tuesday, 27 October 2026, under official reference [L-1].
The publication is the formal notice of making by which the local authority confirms that the pay parking regime has been adopted for the town. The notice identifies the statutory basis of the measure, names the town to which it applies, and sets the clock running on its entry into force. Pay parking bye-laws of this kind are made by local authorities under the Road Traffic Act 1994, and comparable notices of making by other councils have appeared in Iris Oifigiúil during 2026.
The thirty-day clock runs to late November
The notice fixes no separate commencement date: it ties the effect of the bye-laws directly to the date of publication. With the notice dated Tuesday, 27 October 2026, the thirty-day period expires on Thursday, 26 November 2026, from which point the pay parking controls for Carrick-on-Shannon are in place.
The notice contains no transitional or phasing arrangement, and states no other condition attached to commencement.
Where the bye-laws can be inspected
The council has set out two routes by which the public may read the full text and see the parking map:
- Inspection during normal office hours at the offices of Leitrim County Council, Áras an Chontae, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim.
- Viewing and downloading a copy of the bye-laws and the associated map from the council website at www.leitrim.ie.
The associated map is published with the bye-laws as part of the same material, indicating the areas of the town to which the pay parking controls apply.
Charges and enforcement outside the notice
The notice identifies the legal basis, the town concerned and the commencement rule, but it does not itself set out the parking charges, the hours during which charges apply, or the enforcement arrangements. Readers seeking those operational details must consult the bye-laws and the associated map, which are held at Áras an Chontae and posted on the council’s website.
What it means for the town
The approval marks a change of regime for anyone parking in Carrick-on-Shannon, from shoppers and commuters to traders whose customers depend on available spaces. Motorists have until 26 November 2026 to familiarise themselves with the text and the map before the controls come into place, and businesses in the town now have a fixed date against which to plan.
