Álava publishes quarterly Equality and Basque language grants

The Department of Equality, Basque Language and Governance of the Provincial Council of Álava has publicized the grants awarded during the second quarter of 2026, in compliance with Provincial Law 11/2016, of October 19, on Grants of the Historical Territory of Álava. The list is published in the Official Gazette of the Historical Territory of Álava (BOTHA), number 98, of August 28, 2026, and is signed by the provincial deputy Iñaki Gurtubai Artetxe in Vitoria-Gasteiz on August 20.

The announcement includes dozens of aid packages processed by the directorates of Basque Language and Open Government and Equality and Human Rights, benefiting city councils, euskaltegis (Basque language schools), sports federations, universities, and numerous Alavese associations and collectives.

Aid for the promotion of the Basque language

The Directorate of Basque Language and Open Government distributes funds for the revitalization and transmission of the Basque language in the territory, with specific allocations for entities and programs:

• Artziniega City Council: 115,948.49 euros for the repair of the clocks of the Artziniega Tower.
• LANEKI: 14,000 euros for the program “Araban lan munduan profesionalak euskaraz” 2026.
• Arabako Bertsozale Elkartea: 28,000 euros for the programs “Bertsolaritzaren transmisioa Araban 2026” and “Arabako Kuadrillarteko bertso txapelketa 2026”.
• Association of Alavese Sports Federations (AFDA): 10,000 euros for the program “AFDA eredu 2026”.
• Royal Academy of the Basque Language (Euskaltzaindia): 35,841.80 euros for the revitalization of the Basque language in Álava.
• Official Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Álava: 10,000 euros for linguistic consultancy for entrepreneurs.
• Euskaltzaleen Topagunea Federazioa: 40,000 euros for the project “Euskaraldia, Euskara eta Saregintzan” in Álava 2026.
• AENKOMER: 10,000 euros for the program “Euskaraz ari, mekatari eta ostalari” 2026.

Equality, human rights and cooperation

The Directorate of Equality and Human Rights concentrates the bulk of the budget, with particular emphasis on development cooperation and social emergencies. The largest allocation corresponds to the Alava Emergency Fund, which receives 280,000 euros for its 2026 activities.

• Clara Campoamor Association: 12,000 euros for its activities.
• University of Deusto: 13,000 euros for the “Inspira” program.
• “Gure soroa” Association of Alavese agricultural women: 15,000 euros to make agricultural women visible and empower them.
• Lumagorri HAT: 20,000 euros for prevention and awareness against LGTBI+phobia.
• Association of foster families of Sahrawi children (AFANIS): 20,000 euros for the project “Vacations in Peace 2026”.
• Basque-Ecuadorian Solidarity Association (ASVE): 25,000 euros for the “Aukera” project.
• Musicians without Borders: 37,000 euros for the projects “Checkmate to War” and “Tribute to Refugee Childhood”.

University cooperation and social transformation

The University of the Basque Country receives several grants: 20,000 euros to promote development cooperation at the Araba Campus, 60,000 euros for the implementation of the culture of Human Rights and Historical Memory, and 25,000 euros for the “Ikuspegi” program for research on the migratory phenomenon. The Manuel Iradier Africanist Association obtains 50,000 euros for the empowerment of women in the rural commune of Brouwal.

In the call for Education Projects for Social Transformation, grants are distributed among a dozen entities, including Setem, Mundubat, Medicus mundi, Solidaridad internacional, Mugarik gabe, Doctors of the World, and the Red Cross, with amounts ranging between 9,161.76 and 16,000 euros. The interculturality allocation benefits more than twenty parent-teacher associations (AMPAs) and associations, such as Zehar-Errefuxiatuekin, Bor-Bor Aiaraldeko feminismo elkartea, or ASVE, with amounts between 900 and 9,000 euros.

Relevance for the territory

The quarterly publication, mandatory under the Foral Grant Regulation, reinforces the transparency of foral management and allows citizens and entities to know the destination of public funds. The grants, which reach dozens of Alavese groups, sustain the network of euskaltegis and cultural associations, gender equality, international cooperation, and intercultural coexistence in the Historical Territory of Álava.
