Álava finances a network of young reporters in secondary education centers

The Foral Youth Institute has published in the Official Gazette of the Historical Territory of Álava (BOTHA) number 106, dated September 16, 2026, the call for support for young informants in Alavese secondary education centers for the 2026-2027 academic year. The initiative, approved by the Institute’s Board of Directors at its meeting on September 7, 2026, allocates 4,500 euros for the management and promotion of a network of young informants in centers within the territory that do not belong to the municipality of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The call is framed within the general regulatory bases for grants of the Foral Youth Institute, approved by Foral Decree 57/2021, of December 28, of the Foral Government Council, under a regime of competitive and open bidding. The objective is to facilitate young people’s access to information relevant to their personal development and make them the protagonists in the collection, organization, and dissemination of that information among their peers.

Recipients and territorial scope

The call is addressed exclusively to secondary education centers in the Historical Territory of Álava that do not belong to the municipality of Vitoria-Gasteiz, which already has a specific city council call for the 2026-2027 academic year. Compulsory secondary education centers (fourth-year students), baccalaureate, basic vocational training, and intermediate and higher-level vocational training centers may participate.

• Young informants must be students at their centers, residing in Álava or in the enclave of Treviño, between 15 and 25 years old.
• An optimal number of two young people per center is estimated.
• The program will operate from November 2026 to May 2027.

Tasks and commitments

Young informants will manage a physical (bulletin board or corkboard) and/or virtual information space in the center, and will create two short videos per month for the social networks of Infogaztea, the Territorial Youth Information and Documentation Center of Álava. The Institute will deliver informative material biweekly and will offer initial training and support throughout the program.

Centers must select the candidates, designate a responsible person, submit the application, manage the financial allocation, and present the required justification. The young people, for their part, must participate in the training sessions, generate video content, produce a management report, and have a mobile phone.

Amount, applications, and payment

The maximum subsidized amount will be 500 euros per selected educational center, as compensation for the work of promoting the information space and the creation of the videos. A maximum of 9 financial grants will be awarded, funded by budget item 71100 G/232751/48000754 of the Institute’s budget.

• Applications may be submitted from the day following the publication in the BOTHA until October 31, 2026, both dates inclusive.
• They shall be submitted through the electronic office of the Provincial Council of Álava (egoitza.araba.eus) or at the registries of the Provincial Youth Institute (calle Landázuri, 3 bajo, in Vitoria-Gasteiz).
• Payment will be made in two installments of 50%: one in December 2026 and another in May 2027.
• The final justification must be submitted by June 11, 2027.

The evaluation of the proposals will be carried out on a competitive basis, considering the social impact of the project in the environment (up to 10 points), the information management project (up to 25 points), and the presentation video of the youth reporters (up to 15 points). The call is signed by the director-manager of the Institute, Juan José Rojo Bazán, and is part of the organization’s strategic lines, along with the “Lurrikara” program, aimed at promoting the emancipation and participation of rural youth in Álava, and the Infogaztea service.

This call reinforces the leading role of rural youth in Álava within the policies targeted at them, boosting their participation and personal development in educational centers outside the capital. For students between 15 and 25 years old from the regions of Álava, it represents an opportunity to become actively involved in the dissemination of youth information in their immediate environment.
