The Territorial Delegation of Álava of the Department of Economy, Labor and Employment of the Basque Government has approved the determination of the local holidays of Álava for 2027: two non-working days for labor purposes, paid and non-recoverable, in each municipality of the Historical Territory. The resolution, signed on October 5, 2026, by the territorial delegate Ibon López Aldaz, is published in the Official Gazette of the Historical Territory of Álava (BOTHÁ) no. 116, of October 9, 2026, with the official reference 2026-02851. April 28, San Prudencio, is established as the holiday of the historical territory.
Twelve non-working days already approved by the Basque Government
The Basque Government previously approved, through Decree 90/2026, of June 9 (BOPV of July 16, 2026), the list of 12 non-working days for labor purposes during 2027 within the territorial scope of the Basque Country, in addition to Sundays. The regulation is issued under article 12 of the Statute of Autonomy and article 37 of the Recast Text of the Workers’ Statute Law, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015.
The twelve days are:
- January 1, New Year’s Day.
- January 6, Epiphany of the Lord.
- March 25, Maundy Thursday.
- March 26, Good Friday.
- March 29, Easter Monday.
- May 1, Labor Day.
- October 7, Anniversary of the first Government of Euskadi.
- October 12, National Day of Spain.

Competence and prior consultation
The territorial delegate of Álava is competent to establish the two non-working days as local holidays that are traditional to the municipality, following a proposal from the plenary of each city council. The resolution is based on article 2 of Decree 134/2005, of July 5, and article 18.2.f of Decree 323/2024, of November 5, which establishes the organic and functional structure of the department. Before resolving, the appropriate consultation was carried out with the Provincial Council of Álava and the affected city councils.
