Las Palmas appoints 45 new local police officers as career civil servants

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has appointed as career civil servants the forty-five candidates who passed the selection process convened for the permanent filling of 45 Local Police positions. The decision was made by the municipal General Directorate of Human Resources, via resolution registered under no. 32118/2026, dated September 11. The announcement, dated September 14, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands no. 192, dated September 24, 2026, section V. Announcements, page 35318 (announcement no. 3334).

The process began in 2021: on November 15 of that year, the specific rules for the open competitive call for 56 positions were approved, according to resolution no. 39318/2021, modified by resolution no. 46030/2021, dated December 28, which reduced the offer from 56 to 45 positions. The call was approved on December 30, 2021 (resolution no. 46238/2021) and published in the Official Gazette of the Province no. 157, dated December 31, 2021, with subsequent error corrections (resolutions no. 2150/2022 and 2151/2022) disseminated in the Official Gazette of the Province no. 15, dated February 4, 2022. An extract of the rules appeared in the Official State Gazette no. 44/2022, dated February 21.

The 45 candidates had already been appointed as trainee civil servants by resolution no. 4795/2025, dated February 13, 2025, published in the Official Gazette of the Province no. 20, dated February 14, 2025. The Qualifying Board, in a session on August 27, 2026, submitted the final proposal of those declared fit after completing the selection course and the internship period.

Appointments and Assignments

The positions belong to the Special Administration Scale, Special Services Subscale, Group C, Subgroup C1, Local Police, and were vacant in the 2026 organic personnel staff. Among those appointed are:

• Eduardo López Castellano, position 1POL271, post POL-F-559.
• Sheila María Medina Sánchez, position 1POL300, post POL-F-560.
• Aníbal Romay Falcón, position 1POL331, post POL-F-561.
• José Ramón Sánchez-Ferragut Llorens, position 1POL272, post POL-F-562.
• Virna Iris Del Pino Rodríguez, position 1POL125, post POL-F-563.
• Estefanía Saray González Falcón, position 1POL334, post POL-F-564.

The resolution also assigns the new civil servants to the vacant posts of the current Job Position List, under their respective codes, all of which belong to the Local Police Corps of the City Council. The act is signed by the Director General of Human Resources, María Teresa Rodríguez Sánchez, with the intervention of the technical general secretary of the City Government Board.

Deadlines, Oath, and Effects

The assumption of office must take place within one month from the publication of the appointment in the Official Provincial Gazette. The effectiveness of the appointment is simultaneous for all candidates who passed the procedure, including those exempt from taking the selective courses. Anyone who does not assume office without justified cause will be declared ceased, with the loss of all rights derived from the competitive examination and the appointment. Before assuming office, agents shall swear or promise to abide by the Spanish Constitution and the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands, and must declare that they do not perform any incompatible activity according to Law 53/1984.

Budgetary Cost

The file includes the financing of the expenditure associated with the appointments:

• Remuneration for 44 of the 45 positions: 538,904.98 euros.
• Remuneration for position 1POL122-post POL-F-117: 12,247.85 euros, for the period between September 15 and December 31, 2026.
• Employer’s Social Security contribution for 44 positions: 144,469.72 euros, in favor of the General Treasury of the Social Security.

This is a file categorized among expenses not subject to prior audit, according to execution base 27 of the General Budget for 2026.

The appointment consolidates the definitive incorporation of 45 agents into the municipal staff and closes a selection process opened nearly five years ago, with direct effects on the coverage of citizen security in the municipality and on the professional career of the candidates, who transition from probationary civil servants to career civil servants.
