Las Palmas announces 108 specialist firefighter positions via internal promotion

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas the call for 108 Specialist Firefighter positions, via the internal promotion track and through a competitive examination system (concurso-oposición). The offer, included in the 2024 Public Employment Offer, appears in issue number 103 of the gazette, dated August 28, 2026, and constitutes the largest firefighter call of the year.

The positions belong to the Special Administration Scale, Special Services Subscale, Fire Extinction and Rescue Corps, Group C, Subgroup C1. The call was approved by the Resolution of the General Directorate of Human Resources number 28823/2026, of August 17, and the specific rules by Resolution number 28513/2026, of August 13, signed by the Director General of Human Resources, María Teresa Rodríguez Sánchez.

A historic offer for the fire department

The call covers 108 Specialist Firefighter positions as career civil servants, all of which are included in the Public Employment Offer for the year 2024, approved by the Agreement of the City Government Board on December 19, 2024, and subsequently modified. The process is governed by the general rules for access and internal promotion of the City Council, approved in 2016 and modified in 2017.

The selection system is that of a competitive examination (concurso-oposición), which combines capacity tests with the assessment of merits, in accordance with Article 61 of the Revised Text of the Basic Statute of the Public Employee. Internal promotion requires applicants to have a minimum of two years of active service in the lower subgroup.

Requirements and selection system

To participate, applicants must meet the general requirements of the call and hold the qualification corresponding to group C1. The process includes physical and knowledge tests specific to the fire extinction and rescue corps, as well as the competition phase for the assessment of merits.

Fees, deadlines, and submission of applications

The examination fee is 20 euros, in accordance with the Fiscal Ordinance Regulating the Examination Fee, and must be paid via deposit or transfer to the Caixabank account indicated in the rules, stating the concept “Registration for the selective tests for 108 Specialist Firefighter positions C1. Internal Promotion. Examination”.

The application period will be 20 business days, counting from the day following the publication of the call summary in the Official State Gazette. Proof of payment of the fee must be provided at the time of submitting the application, and its absence will be grounds for non-admission to the selection process.

The call is published in full in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas and on the City Council’s electronic office, where the provisional lists of admitted and excluded candidates and the rest of the process procedures will be publicized.

Relevance of the call

With 108 positions, this is the largest offer of firefighters called by the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria this year, and represents a significant reinforcement of the municipal fire and rescue service. The call is part of the execution of the 2024 Public Employment Offer and opens a path for internal promotion for the corps’ personnel, with a testing schedule that will take place over the coming months.
