Las Gabias reorganizes its council departments following the resignation of a councilor

The Las Gabias City Council has reorganized its delegated departments through Decree 2026/1844, dated August 10, 2026, regarding the delegation and assumption of powers, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Granada (number 168, dated September 1, 2026). The measure, signed by the Mayor-President María Merinda Sádaba Terribas, is in response to the resignation of council member Javier Bravo Sánchez from his position.

The decree, which comes into effect on August 11, 2026, modifies the structure established by Decree 2025/01166, dated May 6, from the Mayor’s Office, which formalized the reorganization of the departments, the scope of the delegations, and the appointment of the delegated council members. The proposed resolution PR/2026/481, dated August 10, supports the new distribution of competencies.

Suppression and Renaming of Departments

The reorganization suppresses the Department of Festivals, Culture, and City Promotion, whose competencies are redistributed among other areas. Additionally, two departments change their names:

• The Department of Híjar, Social Rights, and Educational Development becomes the Department of Híjar, Social Rights, Educational Development, and Culture.
• The Department of Sports becomes the Department of Sports and Festivals.

New Delegated Attributions

The Department of Presidency, Personnel, Youth, and Development assumes new city promotion functions, including the promotion of local tourism, the management of the promotional brand “Las Gabias City of Events,” and the coordination of the municipality’s promotional actions. It also manages the Urban Agenda, subsidies, external financing, and European funds.

The Department of Híjar, Social Rights, Educational Development, and Culture incorporates the management of the Culture Service, the management and conservation of historical heritage and cultural spaces, as well as the coordination of Holy Week and the festivities of San Sebastián, San Antón, Candelaria, Carnival, and San Marcos.

The Department of Sports and Festivals assumes the management of the Las Gabias fairs (Patronales, Híjar, and Gabia Chica) and Christmas activities, along with the management of the Sports Service and local sports planning.

Appointments of Delegated Council Members

The decree confirms the heads of the reorganized areas:

• Cristina Moreno Ayuso, delegated council member for Híjar, Social Rights, Educational Development, and Culture.
• Sebastián Pertíñez Reyes, delegated council member for Sports and Festivals.

The resolution will be notified to the interested council members for their acceptance and to the rest of the government team, will be reported to the Plenary in the next session, and will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province and on the Transparency Portal of the Las Gabias City Council.

The reorganization ensures the continuity of municipal services following the departure of Javier Bravo Sánchez, reassigning his competencies among the remaining councilors. For the residents of Las Gabias, the change implies a new distribution of responsibilities in sensitive areas such as social services, culture, sports, and festivals, which must adapt to the new holders of each delegation.
