Landmark Holdings Registers President's Curry Colour Marks Across Six Food Classes

Landmark Holdings Inc. has moved to lock down the “PRESIDENT’S CURRY SPICES GUYANESE TASTE” brand, filing twelve colour trademark applications published in the Trade Marks section of the First Supplement to the Official Gazette of Guyana No. 389/2026, dated Saturday 10 October 2026. The notices, numbered 3194 to 3205, cover applications 35345 to 35356 and were all filed on 1 July 2026. The applications span six international classes of goods, from food preservatives to fresh produce.

The notices are published under the Trademarks Act, Chapter 90:01 of the Laws of Guyana. The applicant’s legal address is given as Lot 1 Croal Street, 5th Floor, Stabroek, Georgetown, with London House Chambers at the same address recorded as the address for service. Each application is expressly linked to the next in a chain: application 35346 is “associated with trademark Number 35,345A in class 1 schedule IV”, and the sequence continues through to 35356.

Twelve applications across six classes

  • Class 1 — chemical substances for preserving foodstuff (application 35345).
  • Class 2 — turmeric (colorant) (35346).
  • Class 5 — food for babies; dietary supplements for human beings and animals (35347).
  • Class 29 — meat, fish, poultry and game; meat extracts; preserved, frozen, dried and cooked fruits and vegetables; jellies, jams, compotes; eggs; milk, cheese, butter, yoghurt and other milk products; oils and fats for food (35348).
  • Class 30 — coffee, tea, cocoa and artificial coffee; rice, pasta and noodles; flour and preparations made from cereals; bread, pastries and confectionery; chocolate; sugar, honey, treacle; salt, seasonings, spices, preserved herbs; vinegar, sauces and other condiments (35349).
  • Class 31 — raw and unprocessed agricultural, aquacultural, horticultural and forestry products; fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs; natural plants and flowers; live animals; foodstuffs and beverages for animals; malt (35350).

The same six classes are repeated in a second block of applications, 35351 to 35356, published as notices 3200 to 3205.

The colours claimed

Each application claims the same eight-colour combination as a feature of the mark:

  • Green: RGB (11, 59, 46)
  • Gold: RGB (201, 154, 36)
  • Yellow: RGB (228, 184, 60)
  • Burgundy: RGB (91, 31, 26)
  • Orange: RGB (184, 90, 32)
  • Brown: RGB (112, 64, 31)
  • Cream: RGB (243, 213, 138)
  • Black: RGB (23, 26, 19)

Limits on the monopoly sought

Every notice carries an identical disclaimer: registration “shall give no right to the exclusive use” of the words “PRESIDENT’S, CURRY, SPICES, GUYANESE, TASTE”, the numbers “1 & 7”, or the image of “tumeric” when used separately from the mark as represented on the application form. The protection therefore attaches to the composite colour mark, not to the descriptive words themselves.

For a Guyanese food brand, the filings mark a deliberate step from product recognition to formal brand protection: by claiming colour across six classes, Landmark Holdings Inc. seeks to control the visual identity of the “PRESIDENT’S CURRY” line well beyond the spice jar, covering preservatives, supplements, meats, staples and fresh produce. The notices are now on the public record, opening the applications to scrutiny under the Trademarks Act.
