The University of León appoints Hugo Mélida as Professor of Plant Physiology

The Rectorate of the University of León has resolved to appoint Hugo Mélida Martínez as University Professor (Catedrático) in the knowledge area of “Plant Physiology,” assigned to the Department of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences. The appointment is formalized through the Resolution of September 10, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León number 178, dated September 14, 2026, on page 14.

The resolution, signed by Rector Nuria González Álvarez, is issued in accordance with Article 50 of Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, on the University System, and Article 80.1 ñ of the Statute of the University of León. The appointment corresponds to the position with code DF001191, filled following the competition convened by the university’s own resolution of May 7, 2026, published in the Official State Gazette of May 14, 2026, and in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León of May 12, 2026.

A competition resolved after regulatory procedures

The appointment comes after the corresponding commission judged the competition for the provision of a position in the Body of University Professors in the area of Plant Physiology. According to the resolution, all regulatory procedures required for the filling of the position have been completed.

The new professor joins the Department of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, where he will carry out his teaching and research activities in the field of plant physiology.

Deadlines and appeals

The resolution establishes the deadlines and channels of appeal applicable to the appointment:

• Taking office: within a maximum period of twenty days from the day following the publication of the appointment in the Official State Gazette.
• Contentious-administrative appeal: within a period of two months from the day following its publication, before the Contentious-Administrative Court of León.
• Appeal for reversal (recurso de reposición): optionally, within a period of one month from the day following its publication, before the Rectorate of the University of León.

The resolution exhausts the administrative route; therefore, the filing of an appeal for reversal suspends the possibility of pursuing the contentious-administrative route until the former is expressly resolved or a presumed dismissal occurs.

The promotion of Hugo Mélida Martínez to the rank of professor represents a recognition of his academic and research career in the field of plant physiology, a key discipline for the study of biological processes in plants and their application in agriculture and biotechnology. This addition strengthens the teaching staff of the Department of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences at the University of León, one of the regional benchmarks in the training of agricultural engineers and in agri-food research.
