The University of La Laguna appoints Chávez Álvarez as Professor of Archaeology

La Universidad de La Laguna nombra catedrática de Arqueología a Chávez Álvarez

The University of La Laguna has appointed, by means of a competitive process, María Esther Chávez Álvarez as University Professor in the field of knowledge of Archaeology, assigned to the Department of Geography and History. The appointment is formalized through the Resolution of September 7, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 186, of September 16, 2026, page 34718.

The resolution, signed by the rector Francisco Javier García Rodríguez, arises from the competition for the provision of positions in university teaching bodies convened by the Resolution of May 26, 2026 (BOE of June 1, 2026). The candidate has accredited the requirements established in article 24 of the Resolution of December 23, 2024, which publicizes the Development Regulations for the competitive processes for access to the university teaching bodies of the University of La Laguna, modified by the Resolution of July 29, 2026 (BOC of August 11, 2026).

Regulatory framework of the appointment

The rectorate acts in accordance with the proposal formulated by the commission appointed for the purpose of resolving the competition, and in compliance with current university regulations:

  • Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, on the University System (article 50.1).
  • Royal Decree 678/2023, of July 18 (article 35).
  • Statutes of the University of La Laguna (article 84).

Effects and taking office

The appointment shall take full effect upon the taking of office by the interested party, which must be carried out within a maximum period of twenty days, counted from the day following the publication of the resolution in the Official State Gazette.

Available appeals

Against the resolution, which ends the administrative route, the interested party may file:

  • An optional appeal for reversal, within a period of one month, before the Rector.
  • A contentious-administrative appeal, within a period of two months, in accordance with current legislation.

The appointment consolidates the academic career of María Esther Chávez Álvarez in the area of Archaeology at the University of La Laguna, reinforcing the teaching and research staff of the Department of Geography and History and the institution’s academic offering in the field of Canarian archaeological studies.
