The University of Alicante announces two vacancies for researchers in training in electrochemistry

The University of Alicante has announced a selection process for the temporary hiring of research personnel in training to collaborate on the project “Electrochemical production of ammonia and urea from nitrate and carbon dioxide: from fundamental electrocatalysis to electrochemical flow cell reactors,” assigned to the University Institute of Electrochemistry. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) number 10447, dated September 9, 2026, by resolution of the Rectorate dated September 2, 2026, with reference I-PI 67-26 and CVE DOGV-C-2026-28045.

The project, with reference CIPROM/2023/11, is funded by the Department of Education, Culture and Universities within the Prometeo Program for research groups of excellence, regulated by the Resolution of October 20, 2023, of the Department of Education, Universities and Employment. The selection is governed by the University of Alicante’s regulations on the hiring of research personnel under temporary employment status, approved by its Governing Council on June 29, 2021.

Positions and contract conditions

The offer includes two positions in the category of researcher in training, with a working day of 37.5 hours per week and a remuneration of 1,644.00 gross euros per month (extra payments prorated), corresponding to a predoctoral contract in its first year. The planned initial duration of the contract is one year, linked to the duration of the project and its budget availability.

• Employment category: researcher in training.
• Working day: 37.5 hours/week in morning/afternoon shifts.
• Remuneration: €1,644.00 gross/monthly.
• Initial duration: 1 year.
• Tasks: mechanistic study of nitrate and CO₂ reduction reactions on transition metal surfaces, spectroelectrochemical measurements, and laser-induced temperature jump relaxation techniques.

Requirements and position profile

Applicants must hold or be in a position to obtain a degree as a graduate, engineer, architect, or university graduate with at least 300 ECTS credits, or a degree plus an official university master’s. Additionally, they must meet the academic requirements for admission to the Doctoral Program in Electrochemistry: Science and Technology at the University of Alicante and must not hold or be in a position to obtain a doctoral degree.

Experience and training in electrochemical techniques and electrocatalysis, as well as degrees in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent master’s degrees, will be especially valued.

Applications shall be submitted within ten business days from the day following the publication of the call in the DOGV, through the electronic headquarters of the University of Alicante. The process consists of two phases: the scoring of merits and a personal interview, which may be conducted in English and will be scored from 0 to 2 points.

The resolution, signed by the Vice-Rector for Research Juan Mora Pastor by delegation of the Rector, also contemplates the possibility of formalizing an addendum for a postdoctoral orientation period of up to 12 months for those who obtain their doctoral degree before the end of the grant. This call represents an opportunity for young researchers who wish to begin their doctoral career at a reference institute in electrochemistry, within a project funded by the excellence program of the Generalitat Valenciana.
