Por FactBox Admin

The University of Extremadura (UEx) has made public the curriculum for the Degree in Documentation and Digital Information Management, an official degree of 240 European credits (ECTS) to be completed over four academic years. The decision was signed by Rector Pedro M. Fernández Salguero through the Resolution of October 19, 2026, which the Official Gazette of Extremadura included in issue number 208, dated October 28, 2026, under official reference 2026062669.
The degree has been verified by the Council of Universities, following a favorable report from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), and authorized by the Autonomous Community of Extremadura. The official status of the degree was established by the Agreement of the Council of Ministers of September 15, 2026, published in the Official State Gazette on September 22, as noted in the rector’s resolution.
The publication is based on article 8.3 of Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, on the University System, and article 27.4 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28, which regulates the organization of university education. The plan is assigned to the Social and Legal Sciences branch and is structured into eight semesters, according to the resolution’s annex.
240 credits and a distribution with two tracks
The plan distributes the teaching load between basic training and compulsory subjects, with an elective block that varies depending on whether the student chooses the dual mention:
- Basic training: 60 ECTS in both tracks.
- Compulsory: 102 ECTS.
- Electives: 60 ECTS in the general track and 72 ECTS in the dual mention track.
- External academic internships: 12 ECTS in the general track and none in the dual.
- Final degree project: 6 ECTS.
- Total: 240 ECTS in both modalities.
The basic training is divided among six subjects: Communication (24 ECTS), Computer Science (12), Business (6), Law (6), Statistics (6), and History (6). The module on foundations and information and documentation technologies concentrates the 102 compulsory credits.
Artificial intelligence, data, and archives in the syllabus
The basic subjects include Information and Society, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence applied to documentation, Digital Content Editing, Legal and Ethical Framework of Information, and Digital Humanities, along with communication theory, informative documentation, management of documentation companies, and applied statistics.
The compulsory block addresses the classic competencies of the sector alongside emerging profiles:
- Description of documentary resources I and II, and content analysis.
- Library management, digital libraries, archives management, and electronic document management.
- Databases, web content management, and information retrieval.
- Planning of information units, interaction, and user services.
- Information preservation, digital information sources, scientometrics and evaluation, and research methods and techniques.
The elective offering adds subjects such as Electronic Administration, Big data and data mining, Technological surveillance and competitive intelligence, Information processing and visualization, Information ethics and security, Management of historical documentary funds, and Cultural entrepreneurship.
External internships and dual mention with collaborating entities
Students of the general track will take External Internships I and External Internships II, 6 ECTS each, in addition to the final degree project. The dual mention replaces these internships with four dual training subjects —I (24 ECTS), II (24), III (12), and IV (12)— and a specific final degree project of 6 credits.
This mention is obtained upon passing the subjects and the final degree project of the track, within the framework of a dual training project developed with a collaborating entity, in accordance with article 22 of Royal Decree 822/2021. The sequencing of subjects may be modified by agreement of the Governing Council of the University of Extremadura and with a favorable evaluation from ANECA.
The degree expands the public offering of a university that already taught Information and Documentation and updates it toward massive data processing, electronic administration, and digital preservation. The plan thus reaches future students with a closed map of credits, subjects, and competencies, and organizes the training of professionals who will manage archives, libraries, and information systems in the administrations and companies of Extremadura.
