UCLM announces 250,000 euros in grants for students in economic hardship

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has announced grants for the 2026/2027 academic year intended for students in special situations, with a total budget of 250,000 euros and a limit of 2,500 euros per person. The call is published via the extract of the Resolution of 09/21/2026 disseminated in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha (DOCM) on September 25, 2026, with reference 2026/6914 and identification number BDNS 930858. The application period will remain open from September 22 to October 30, 2026.

The extract is published in accordance with articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of the General Subsidies Law 38/2003, of November 17, and the full text of the call can be consulted in the National Subsidies Database. The resolution is signed, by delegation of the Rector, by the Vice-Rector for Students and Employability, Amaya Romero Izquierdo, by virtue of the Resolution of 01/13/2025 (DOCM of 01/15/2025 and 01/24/2025).

The objective is to provide economic funds to alleviate unexpected economic difficulties occurring in 2026 or those that persist over time and prevent the continuation of official Undergraduate studies at the UCLM. The grants subsidize expenses derived from these studies assumed by the students or their families, subject to the compatibility limits set out in point 6 of the guidelines.

Applicant Requirements

• Complete Undergraduate enrollment for the 2026/2027 academic year at the UCLM.
• Not hold an official university degree nor meet the legal requirements for its issuance.
• Prove a situation of economic difficulty that prevents or hinders the continuation of studies.
• Have passed at least 50% of the enrolled credits in the 2025/2026 academic year, a threshold that drops to 40% for technical and science programs, with exceptions assessed by the Evaluation Committee.
• Not exceed the second income threshold nor the family asset thresholds of Royal Decree 179/2026, of March 11.
• Be up to date with tax obligations, a requirement extendable to all members of the family unit when economic independence does not exist.
• Not incur the prohibitions of article 13 of Law 38/2003 nor article 74 of Legislative Decree 1/2002, of November 19.
• Persons enrolled in other universities who are carrying out temporary stays at the UCLM through national or international mobility programs are excluded.

When is it considered an unexpected difficulty

Unexpected economic difficulty is understood to exist when any of these circumstances occur during 2026:

• Forced retirement before reaching the regulatory age, permanent occupational disability, or death of the family’s primary provider.
• Unemployment or employment regulation proceedings (ERE) of the family’s primary provider.
• Serious illness or accident of any member of the family unit.
• Any other circumstance that, in the judgment of the Vice-Rectorate for Students and Employability and following a reasoned proposal from the Evaluation Committee, constitutes a situation of urgent need.

The situation is also considered persistent when it predates 2026 and has not experienced improvement in the current academic year. For the calculation of the family unit’s income and assets, only income generated and assets located within the national territory are computed.

Budget, amount, and deadline

The budget for the call amounts to 250,000 euros, an amount that may be increased with credits enabled from other earmarked income intended to finance student aid or from items from other governing bodies that decide to collaborate. The amount of the aid may not exceed, across all expenditure concepts, 2,500 euros per student.

Applications shall be submitted through the UCLM website (https://becas.apps.uclm.es/) between September 22 and October 30, 2026, accompanied by the documentation detailed in point 8 of the full text of the call.

The call arrives in a context of increasing university living costs and offers a specific protection network for students whose academic continuity is endangered by unforeseen causes, such as unemployment or the death of the family’s primary provider. Affected students have just over a month to gather the supporting documentation and formalize their application.
