The Government Chamber of the TSJ appoints eight peace judges in six municipalities

The Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha, acting in commission, has agreed upon the appointment of eight justices of the peace, both titular and substitutes, for six municipalities in the province of Cuenca. The agreement, adopted on September 4, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cuenca number 104, dated September 9, 2026, under reference NO. 2110.

The edict is signed by Sigfrido Mangas Morales, Secretary of Government of the High Court of Justice of Castilla-La Mancha, and was issued in Albacete on the same date as the agreement. The appointments are made by virtue of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, published in the Official State Gazette on July 13, 1995, and articles 101.2 and 101.4 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary, in compliance with the agreement of the Plenary of the General Council of the Judiciary of December 1, 1995.

The eight appointments

The Governing Chamber has designated titular and substitute justices of the peace in six municipalities of the province:

• Substitute Justice of the Peace of Torrejoncillo del Rey: Marta Díaz Olaya.
• Titular Justice of the Peace of El Pedernoso: Jesús Fresneda Fernández.
• Substitute Justice of the Peace of El Pedernoso: Soledad Manzanares Ruiz.
• Titular Justice of the Peace of Cueva del Hierro: Pilar Herraiz Rubio.
• Titular Justice of the Peace of Yémeda: Ángel Arnao Eslava.
• Titular Justice of the Peace of Ledaña: Pedro Velencoso Gandía.
• Substitute Justice of the Peace of Ledaña: Inmaculada Orozco García.
• Substitute Justice of the Peace of Chillarón de Cuenca: Laura Bonilla Torres.

Assumption of office and mandate

Those appointed must assume their office within twenty calendar days following the date of publication of their appointment in the provincial gazette, following an oath or promise before the Court of First Instance and Instruction of the judicial district, or before the Dean if there are several. Those who have already taken an oath or promise previously for the same position shall not be required to repeat it.

The duration of the mandate shall be four years, computed from the date of publication of the appointment in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cuenca.

Appeals

An administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) may be filed against the appointment agreement within one month starting from the day following the notification or publication, before the Permanent Commission of the General Council of the Judiciary, in accordance with the provisions of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

The renewal of the justices of the peace guarantees the provision of proximity justice services in the small municipalities of the province, where these non-professional positions are essential for the processing of conciliation acts, civil registries, and public notary functions. With these eight appointments, the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice (TSJ) of Castilla-La Mancha ensures the coverage of both permanent positions and substitutions in six towns in Cuenca.
