La Rioja subsidizes the natural gas network in Calahorra

The Official Gazette of La Rioja publishes this Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the summary of the agreement signed between the Government of La Rioja and Nedgia Rioja, S.A. for the granting of a direct subsidy intended for the execution of natural gas transport and distribution installations in the municipality of Calahorra. The agreement, signed on July 17, 2026, provides for a regional contribution of 3,996,975 euros.
The publication is carried out through Resolution 1340/2026, of August 19, of the Technical General Secretariat of the Department of Finance, Public Governance, Digital Society and Government Spokesperson, in compliance with article 10 of Decree 13/2017, of April 12, which regulates the Electronic Registry of Agreements of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja. The agreement is registered under number 2026/0566.
A boost to the regasification of Calahorra
The purpose of the agreement is to regulate the granting of a direct subsidy from the Autonomous Community, channeled through the Department of Economy, Innovation, Business and Self-Employment, in favor of NEDGIA RIOJA, S.A. for the regasification of the municipality of Calahorra. The action consists of the expansion of the regulation infrastructure and the extension of the natural gas distribution network, in order to guarantee the supply in the town for both urban and industrial consumption.
The project also seeks to improve the connectivity and meshing of the network with the ‘La Maja’ industrial estate and with the Arnedo-Rincón de Soto gas pipeline, which reinforces the energy backbone of the region.
Signatories and validity of the agreement
The agreement was signed by the following parties:
- For the Government of La Rioja: María Belinda León Fernández, Minister of Economy, Innovation, Business and Self-Employment.
- For Nedgia Rioja, S.A.: Raúl Suárez Álvarez, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
The financial obligation assumed by the Government of La Rioja amounts to 3,996,975 euros. The agreement will be in effect from January 1, 2026, until December 31, 2029.
The resolution ordering the publication of the summary was signed in Logroño on August 19, 2026, by Begoña Sáinz Martínez, Head of the Government Secretariat and Parliamentary Relations Service of the Department of Finance, Public Governance, Digital Society and Government Spokesperson.
Relevance for the region
This grant represents a significant step toward consolidating the natural gas supply in Calahorra, one of the main urban and industrial centers of La Rioja Baja. The expansion of the network and its connection to the ‘La Maja’ industrial estate and the Arnedo-Rincón de Soto pipeline will improve the competitiveness of local companies and ensure a more stable energy service for households and the productive sector for years to come.
