La Rioja proposes hunting aid to 13 municipalities in the Cameros Reserve

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Affairs and Environment of the Government of La Rioja has published the provisional proposal for the resolution granting subsidies to the 13 local entities integrated in the Regional Hunting Reserve of La Rioja Cameros-Demanda for the 2026 financial year. The proposal was signed on 14 August 2026 by Pedro Pablo Matute Lozano, Head of the Nature Protection, Hunting and Fishing Service, and is published in Official Gazette of La Rioja No. 157, of 18 August 2026, page 14431, with verification code BOR-A-20260818-III–3229.

The subsidies are regulated by Order 12/2016, of 25 April, of the former Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Environment, as amended by Order AGR/5/2019, of 19 February. The purpose of these grants is to finance improvement, conservation and management works for hunting resources, as well as the adaptation of infrastructure and equipment in the municipalities that make up the reserve. The call for 2026 was approved by Resolution 825/2026, of 27 April, and the funds are distributed according to two criteria: 70% in proportion to the area contributed by each municipality to the reserve and 30% according to the supplementary fees settled from the results of the hunts of the previous season.

13 municipalities receive subsidies in a competitive bidding procedure

13 applications were submitted in the call, all of them from municipalities in the Cameros region. The procedure is one of competitive bidding, and the regulation establishes a priority system when the credit is insufficient to cover the full amounts requested.

The 13 beneficiary municipalities and their approved works are:

• Canales de La Sierra City Council — Improvement of rural road — €17,705.51
• Cabezón de Cameros City Council — Construction of building for social center and multi-purpose center — €8,680.31
• Gallinero de Cameros City Council — Repair of municipal swimming pool — €14,000.00
• Zarzosa City Council — Works on drinking water treatment facilities in Zarzosa — €20,790.92
• Brieva de Cameros City Council — Expansion of municipal cemetery — €19,989.88
• Villavelayo City Council — Repair of retaining wall on Calle Castillo — €28,795.64
• Mansilla de La Sierra City Council — Construction of retaining wall — €19,992.08
• Ventrosa City Council — Conditioning and improvements on Calle del Valle and consolidation of stone wall — €46,150.36
• Viniegra de Abajo City Council — Improvement actions in public space — €14,205.80
• Lumbreras City Council — Actions to improve the Santiago gazebo — €30,568.81
• Ajamil de Cameros City Council — Paving of public space and construction of auxiliary shed — €15,194.59
• Villoslada de Cameros City Council — Stairs, municipal premises and works in swimming pool changing rooms — €48,917.28
• Ortigosa de Cameros City Council — Installation of sectional door and repairs in municipal warehouse — €24,208.82

The total granted amounts to €836,853.24.

Four municipalities see their amount reduced due to insufficient credit

The proposal states that the available credit is insufficient to grant each beneficiary the maximum amount requested. Therefore, four local entities receive a subsidy lower than what they had requested:

• Cabezón de Cameros: requested €479,139.34 and receives €8,680.31 — a reduction of 98.2%.
• Zarzosa: requested €37,936.36 and receives €20,790.92 — a reduction of 45.2%.
• Ajamil de Cameros: requested €15,323.57 and receives €15,194.59 — a reduction of 0.8%.
• Ortigosa de Cameros: requested €27,894.83 and receives €24,208.82 — a reduction of 13.2%.

Furthermore, the proposal notes that the city councils of Villoslada de Cameros and Viniegra de Abajo were required to apply for the subsidy given that their accumulated deficit exceeded 15% of the amount provided for in the call, in accordance with Article 8 of Order 12/2016.

Period for objections and next phase

The 13 beneficiaries have ten business days from the day following publication in the BOR to submit any objections they deem appropriate. If no objections are submitted, the provisional proposal will be considered accepted and will become final. Otherwise, the instructing body will study them and formulate a new final resolution proposal.
