La Rioja sets the 2027 local festivals for all its municipalities

The General Directorate of Labor and Occupational Health of the Government of La Rioja has set the calendar of paid and non-recoverable local holidays for the year 2027 in all municipalities of the community. The resolution, signed by the general director Pilar Simón Estefanía in Logroño on August 18, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of La Rioja number 160, dated August 21, 2026, within section III of other provisions and acts.

Legal Framework

The determination of non-working days is supported by article 46 of Royal Decree 2001/1983, of July 28, which grants the Labor Authority the power to annually set the local holidays specific to each municipality. In accordance with article 37.2 of Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015, of October 23, which approves the revised text of the Workers’ Statute Law, these holidays cannot exceed two per locality.

The General Directorate has resolved this based on the proposals submitted by the respective city councils, in exercise of the competence conferred for this purpose. Marked Dates in the Main Localities

Among the capitals and district centers, the 2027 calendar highlights the following dates:

• Logroño: June 11 (San Bernabé) and September 21 (San Mateo).
• Calahorra: March 3 and August 31 (local holidays).
• Haro: June 25 and September 8 (Virgen de la Vega).
• Arnedo: September 8 (Virgen de Vico) and September 27 (San Cosme and San Damián).
• Nájera: April 28 (San Prudencio) and September 16 (San Juan Mártir).
• Santo Domingo de la Calzada: May 12 and September 20 (local holidays).
• Alfaro: August 16 (San Roque) and September 8 (Virgen del Burgo).

A Calendar Covering the Entire Territory

The resolution details the two holidays for each of the Riojan municipalities, from Ábalos (August 3, San Esteban, and September 8, Virgen de la Rosa) to Zorraquín (August 26, San Vitores, and December 13, Santa Lucía). In municipalities with hamlets, such as Cervera del Río Alhama, Cirueña, Manzanares de Rioja, or Nalda, differentiated dates are recorded for each population center.

For the remaining municipalities of La Rioja not expressly mentioned, the resolution establishes that the two traditional holidays specific to each will apply. The calendar combines religious festivities with deep local roots, such as San Isidro (May 15) or San Roque (August 16), with patronal celebrations and neighborhood brotherhoods.

Impact for Workers and Companies

The publication of the calendar allows workers, companies, and social agents to plan in advance the non-working days of 2027 in each locality, as well as to organize vacations and productive activity. Since these are paid and non-recoverable holidays, their determination has direct effects on collective agreements and the organization of work throughout the Riojan territory.
