La Rioja opens a research contract in Scientific Computing

The University of La Rioja has opened a call for research contracts to attract national and international talent in the field of Scientific Computing, aimed at doctoral research personnel. The call is announced via Resolution 1374/2026, of September 3, by the Rector, and is published in the Official Gazette of La Rioja number 175, of September 11, 2026, in section III (official reference BOR-A-20260911-III–3490).

The objective is to strengthen the Scientific Computing research line of the Scientific Computing Institute of the University of La Rioja (SCRIUR) through the incorporation of specialized personnel to support the development of numerical methodologies, advanced computational models, and high-performance simulation tools, as well as the processing and analysis of complex data.

Regulatory Framework and Funding

The call is carried out under Resolution 415/2023, of March 27, by the Rector, which orders the publication of the regulatory bases for research contracts for talent attraction, approved by the Governing Council on March 27, 2023, and modified on May 9, 2025. It is also framed within Law 17/2022, of September 5, which modifies Law 14/2011, of June 1, on Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Funding comes from the Collaboration Agreement between the Government of La Rioja, through the Department of Education and Employment, and the University of La Rioja for the funding of SCRIUR in 2026. The estimated distribution by budget applications is as follows:

• 40.02.26 500I 640.00: 78,922 euros
• 40.02.26 500I 640.01: 24,508 euros

Contract Characteristics

A single new award contract is called for, with a scientific computing profile. The assigned endowment is 33,638.00 gross euros per year, plus the end-of-contract indemnity, with a gross monthly remuneration that will not exceed 2,122.50 euros in twelve monthly payments. The duration will be three years, extendable up to a maximum of six depending on budget availability and subject to a favorable evaluation.

Contracted personnel may perform teaching activities up to a maximum of 100 hours per year, subject to prior agreement with the involved department and approval from the competent Vice-Rectorate. Doctoral degree holders who meet the requirements of the regulatory bases may be beneficiaries.

Deadlines and Procedure

The application submission period will be one month starting from the day following the publication of the resolution in the Official Gazette of La Rioja. Applications shall be addressed to the Vice-Rectorate with competencies in research matters and may be submitted via the Electronic Registry of the University of La Rioja.

Due to urgent reasons, the deadline for submitting allegations provided for in article 5.5 of the regulatory bases is reduced to seven calendar days. The selection will be carried out under a competitive bidding process, with a minimum score of 30 points to pass the evaluation.

The 2026 Evaluation Committee for Scientific Computing will be composed of:

The call, signed in Logroño on September 3, 2026, by Rector Eva Sanz Arazuri, reinforces the University of La Rioja’s commitment to frontier research and knowledge transfer, in a transversal field such as scientific computing, which is key for modeling, prediction, and optimization applied to scientific, technological, and social problems.
