La Rinconada cambia las bases del Premio Almudena Grandes y añade trofeo

The City Council of La Rinconada has approved the modification of the regulatory bases and the call for entries for the “Almudena Grandes” Literature Prize for 2026. The decision was adopted by Mayoral Decree number 2026-5714, dated October 5, 2026, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Seville (BOP) number 197, Friday, October 9, 2026, on page 25. The announcement bears the official reference CVE: BOP-SE-2026-197011.

The original bases of the competition had been approved by Mayoral Decree number 2026-3639, dated June 17, 2026. The new resolution does not alter the text as a whole, but is limited to rewriting the Second Base, now titled “Financial Endowment and Award”. The change is processed under the Credit Transfer file number 19063/2026 of the municipal Culture Area, the purpose of which is to complementarily incorporate an award in kind that provides “greater prominence and institutional prestige to the competition”.

The cash endowment remains unchanged

The full text of the modified base confirms that the financial endowment of the prize, in the Narrative modality, remains unchanged:

  • 5,000.00 euros for the fiction category.
  • 5,000.00 euros for the non-fiction category.
  • Indivisible nature for each of the modalities.
  • Amounts subject to legally established tax withholdings.

The City Council specifies that these amounts will be paid from budget application 0203-33410-48101 for the 2026 fiscal year. The call also includes a special mention for a debut work “whose quality deserves to be supported and disseminated”.

A bronze bust as an award

The main novelty is the incorporation of an exclusive commemorative trophy, which will be delivered “complementarily and inseparably” to the cash endowment. It consists of a bronze bust of Almudena Grandes created by the sculptor Martín Lagares, described in the resolution as “prestigious and recognized”. The council emphasizes that the sculptural piece is unique and provides “high artistic, cultural, and patrimonial value to the institutional award”, reinforcing the prestige of the competition and the honor of the awardees.

Jury intact and means of appeal

The modification leaves unaltered and fully in force the rest of the terms, conditions, data protection safeguard deadlines, and the composition of the jury, which continues to be chaired by Mr. Luis García Montero. The resolution, signed by the mayor Mr. Francisco Javier Fernández Los Ríos Torres, concludes the administrative process. The following may be filed against it:

  • An optional appeal for reversal before the same body that issued it, within one month.
  • A contentious-administrative appeal before the Contentious-Administrative Courts of Seville, within two months.

Both deadlines are counted from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official Gazette of the Province.

The adjustment directly interests the writers who enter the competition and the cultural sector of La Rinconada, which sees the appeal of a prize already consolidated in the provincial literary calendar reinforced. The addition of the bronze bust increases the symbolic value of the award at no additional cost to the winners, while the financial endowment remains stable at 10,000 euros divided between the two categories.
