The OSPA hires four permanent instrumentalists following the selection process

The Management of the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias (OSPA) has resolved to hire four instrumentalists as permanent staff in the category of Tutti Instrumental Professor, as a result of the open competitive selection process convened by the Adolfo Posada Asturian Institute of Public Administration. The decision is formalized through the Resolution of August 14, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) number 165, dated August 26, 2026, within the Authorities and Personnel section of the Department of Culture, Linguistic Policy, and Sport.

A long-term selection process

The selection tests for entry into the category of Tutti Instrumental Professor of the OSPA were convened by resolution of the Director of the Adolfo Posada Asturian Institute of Public Administration on June 15, 2021, under an open call and permanent staff regime. The call was subsequently modified via publication in the BOPA on July 2, 2024.

The Evaluating Board published on August 10, 2026, the announcement of the final qualification of the competition phase and the final qualification of the process, including the list of individuals who passed and the scoring order. The Management’s resolution transfers the matter to the OSPA Personnel Management Service for the formalization of contracts and the corresponding administrative, budgetary, and Social Security actions.

The four hired instrumentalists

The hired individuals, along with their instrument and final score, are as follows:

• Violin: Ms. Cristina Castillo Calatayud, with 19.165 points.
• Violin: Ms. Ana Lasaosa González, with 15.210 points.
• Viola: Mr. Diego Nieves Molina, with 17.460 points.
• Double Bass: Mr. Francisco de Asís Mestre Fernández, with 21.200 points.

The hiring will be formalized in accordance with the legal regime, duration, probationary period, and other conditions provided for in the call and in Article 50 of the OSPA Collective Agreement, which regulates the filling of instrumental professor positions.

Requirements and conditions for incorporation

The proposed individuals were required to present, within the established deadline, documentation proving compliance with the requirements, including a sworn statement that they had not been dismissed from service nor were they disqualified, a medical certificate of functional capacity, and, where applicable, documentation regarding their qualifications. It is recorded in the file that all of them have proven compliance with the required requirements.

The Court’s announcement also considers the situation of those who have provided services as interim instrumental professors for the OSPA for three years or for shorter periods, with the corresponding consequences regarding their contracting and the acquisition of tenured professor status. The contracted individuals will be subject to the working conditions of the OSPA Collective Agreement and the applicable labor regulations.

Relevance for the Asturian musical sector

The incorporation of these four instrumentalists consolidates the staff of the Asturian symphonic ensemble with permanent positions, providing job stability to professionals in the musical sector and reinforcing the artistic capacity of the OSPA. The resolution, signed in Oviedo on August 14, 2026, by the Manager, represents the administrative closure of a selection process initiated five years ago and a relevant step for the structuring of cultural employment in the Principality.
