La Oliva announces two Social Worker positions via competitive examination

The Illustrious City Council of La Oliva has made public the rectification of the specific rules and the call to fill, via the open competition and through the competitive examination system, two positions for Social Worker (Group A, Subgroup A2), as career civil servants. The decision, adopted by the Local Government Board in the session of August 18, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas number 101, of August 24, 2026, with the official reference 1755480 (page 14951).

The call arises from the Public Employment Offer of the La Oliva City Council for 2023, approved by Mayor’s Resolution number 2023-3618, of December 29, 2023, which already included these two positions. The general rules governing the selection processes were approved by the Plenary on February 24, 2026, and published in the BOP number 27, of March 4, 2026, with a correction of errors in number 66, of June 3, 2026. The specific rules were approved on July 14, 2026, and published in the BOP number 86, of July 20, and in the Official State Gazette number 184, of July 29, 2026.

The rectification now published responds to Decree 2026-2216, of August 13, 2026, which partially upheld an appeal for reversal and ordered the correction of the rules in accordance with article 109.2 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure. The agreement is signed by the mayor, Isaí Blanco Marrero.

Requirements and submission of applications

To participate, it is necessary to meet the general requirements of nationality, age, and functional capacity, in addition to the specific requirements for the position:

• Qualification: Degree or Diploma in Social Work, or an officially declared equivalent qualification, or to be in a position to obtain it before the application deadline expires.
• Valid Driving License B.
• Negative certificate from the Central Registry of Sexual Offenders, in accordance with Law 26/2015.

Applications may be submitted by electronic means through the City Council’s electronic office, in person at the General Registry (calle Emilio Castellot Martínez n.º 2, La Oliva), or by administrative mail. The examination fee is set at 35.00 euros, to be paid by deposit or transfer to the BBVA account, Corralejo branch.

Phases of the selection process

The process combines an examination phase, which accounts for 80% of the grade, and a merit competition phase, with a maximum of 2 points. The examination phase consists of two eliminatory exercises:

• First exercise (theoretical): a 90-question multiple-choice questionnaire with four alternatives, to be completed in 100 minutes, covering the general and specific parts of the syllabus.
• Second exercise (practical): written development of a practical case in a maximum of three hours, related to the specific functions of the category.

Each exercise is scored from 0 to 10, with a minimum of 5 points required to pass. In the competition phase, professional experience (up to 1 point), additional academic qualifications, and training courses (up to 1 point) are valued. The tribunal will be composed of a president, four members, and a secretary, with the requirement that at least two of its members be social workers.

Indicative Calendar

The first exercise of the theoretical part may not be held before October 1, 2026, with the following indicative calendar being established:

• First exercise (theoretical): October 2026.
• Second exercise (practical): November 2026.
• Merit competition: November 2026.

The exact date and time will be announced in advance on the notice board and on the Corporation’s website. Selected candidates must take office within a maximum period of one month from the notification of the appointment, and a reserve list will also be established for interim or temporary staffing needs.

The call for applications represents a significant opportunity for social services professionals on the island of Fuerteventura, in a municipality with a growing demand for social care. The publication of the rectified rules opens the way for applicants to formalize their registration and prepare for a process that is expected to be resolved before the end of the year.
