The Regional Government distributes 20,000 euros to 49 municipalities for emergencies

The Vice Presidency and Ministry of the Presidency, Coordination of Government Action, Interior and Emergencies of the Junta de Extremadura has publicized the grants awarded to 49 city councils and smaller local entities to address emergency situations, those of an extraordinary nature, or those derived from increased seasonal or temporary demand. The resolution, signed on August 20, 2026, by the Secretary General David González Gil, is published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura (Diario Oficial de Extremadura) number 166, dated August 27, 2026.

The aid is granted under a direct award regime through an open call, with amounts of up to 20,000 euros per municipality. These funds are intended for the necessary actions to guarantee the provision and operation of local public services when they are affected by emergencies, breakdowns, or increased seasonal demand.

Regulatory Framework

The regime for these grants is established in Decree 97/2024, of August 27, which sets the regulatory bases for aid to municipalities and smaller local entities of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura. The call for the 2025 financial year was arranged by Resolution of July 31, 2025, of the General Secretariat, published in DOE number 163, of August 25.

In compliance with Article 17 of Law 6/2011, of March 23, on Grants of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura, and Article 11 of Law 4/2013, of May 21, on Open Government of Extremadura, the awards are published in the DOE and on the Grants and Transparency Portal of the Junta.

Use of Aid

The majority of the funded actions focus on the repair and improvement of drinking water supply and sanitation networks, as well as the repair of damage caused by floods and meteorological phenomena. Among the beneficiaries are:

• Jerte, Trujillanos, Zarza la Mayor, Garciaz, and El Torno, with 20,000 euros each for supply and network actions.
• Castilblanco, with 20,000 euros to repair the drinking water pipeline damaged by the Valdecaballeros fire.
• Calzadilla de los Barros and Zarza de Granadilla, with 20,000 euros to correct flooding and flash floods.
• Belvís de Monroy (€16,082.87), Acehúche (€12,509.94), and Piedras Albas (€5,606.35), among the smaller amounts.
• Esparragosa de la Serena, with 2,500 euros, the smallest grant, for private security services.

Amounts and Scope

Almost all municipalities receive the maximum amount of 20,000 euros, charged to budget application 220060000 G/115B/46000 or 76000 and expenditure project 20240314. Other notable amounts are those of Burguillos del Cerro (€19,750.65), Alía (€19,992.03), Villanueva de la Vera (€19,226.05), and Hernán Pérez (€18,029).

The resolution publicizes the grants for the 2025 fiscal year, stating the beneficiary, budget application, purpose, and amount, as required by the subsidy regulations of the Autonomous Community.

Relevance for the municipalities

These grants allow dozens of small Extremaduran municipalities to address water supply breakdowns, flood damage, and the maintenance of basic services such as swimming pools, libraries, or cultural centers using the Junta’s own resources. For localities with small populations, the amount of up to 20,000 euros represents direct relief in their capacity to provide essential services to residents.
