The Andalusian Regional Government calls a merit-based competition for the position of Head of Microbiology in Malaga

The General Directorate of Personnel of the Andalusian Health Service has issued a resolution, dated 13 August 2026, announcing a merit-based competition for the coverage of the intermediate management position of Head of the Faculty Section of Microbiology and Parasitology at the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital in Malaga. The resolution was published on Tuesday 18 August 2026 in Official Bulletin of the Andalusian Regional Government (BOJA) number 159, in its section 2.2, dedicated to examinations, competitions and other calls.

The publication appears under the Ministry of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies and is identified with reference number 10000585. The position announced for the Virgen de la Victoria Hospital has the status of intermediate post within the organisational structure of the SAS, which places it at a functional level between management positions — such as hospital directors or clinical management unit directors — and frontline healthcare staff.

Context: a reference hospital in the capital of Malaga

The Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital in Malaga is one of the reference hospital centres in the province, linked to the Andalusian Health Service. The Microbiology and Parasitology Section is an essential medical service that provides diagnostic support for bacterial, viral, parasitic and fungal infections, work whose relevance has been highlighted in recent years by the threat of antimicrobial resistance and the need for epidemiological surveillance.

The management of this section falls to a Head of the Faculty Section, a specialist physician who assumes both the clinical management of the laboratory and the supervision of microbiological and parasitological diagnostic protocols applicable to the entire hospital centre and, in many cases, to its area of influence.
